Two names that often come up in this debate are Jon Jones and Khabib Nurmagomedov. ‘Bones’, who has been a dominant force in the light heavyweight division, has a record 14 title defenses, while Nurmagomedov, the former lightweight champion, retired with 13 wins in the UFC.

‘Gamebred’s post highlighted the difference between the legacy of the two fighters. While ‘The Eagle’ retired with a perfect record of 13 wins in the UFC, ‘Bones’ has amassed an impressive UFC record of 20-1 (1 NC), with 14 title defenses. Fans were quick to side with Jones; arguing that his record in the UFC was far superior to that of the Dagestani.

Here is how fans reacted to the post –

One fan said – “I’m sorry but Khabib ducked too many fights missed weight and his last what 3-4 fights was his only challenge and retired when he got the belt. He just doesn’t have an elite resume…”

One said – “Khabibs record is not even close to Jon Jones’ . Khabib’s name shouldn’t even be mentioned in any GOAT conversation. Period.”

Another fan mocked Nurmagomedov on early retirement and said – “Khabib got scared and used his mom to protect him. JJ with all of his issues outside of the octagon still maintained dominance and these numbers don’t lie.”

One fan pointed out at Masvidal’s caption and said – “The TRUTH is NEVER “too far.” That is a FACT, not an opinion or an emotional comment.

Another fan said – “Jones is a brawler to and not an ankle grabbing cuddler”

Another commented – “All honestly if Jones would of stayed out of trouble none of this would of even been in question. Prime Jon Jones was the guy no one wanted to fight.”

Other fighters in the GOAT debate

However, the debate doesn’t just revolve around these two fighters. There are other contenders who have a legitimate claim to be the UFC’s GOAT. Georges St-Pierre, who retired with a record of 26-2, is often mentioned in the conversation. Anderson Silva, who dominated the middleweight division for years, also comes up frequently. Demetrious Johnson, who was the flyweight champion for six years, is another fighter who could be considered.
