UFC Hall of Famer Khabib Nurmagomedov, after retiring with a legendary career, saw Islam Makhachev and Umar Nurmagomedov leading the charge for the Dagestani camp in the UFC. However, one fighter from his camp, who’s yet to arrive in Dana White’s promotion, may have to wait a little more before he gets inside the Octagon. We’re talking about none other than ‘The Eagle’s cousin, Usman Nurmagomedov, who will be fighting under the PFL banner for a few more years.

Despite mostly managing Islam Makhachev, Rizvan Magomedov, who has close ties with Khabib Nurmagomedov and his team, revealed that Umar’s younger brother, Usman Nurmagomedov, the Bellator lightweight champion, has plans to extend his contract. At the end of the current one, the 26-year-old will compete under a new contract, but currently, they are in the negotiation stage, so his team hasn’t reached out to Dana White and & Co. for his arrival into the UFC.

“No, there’s no talk now [with the UFC]. Usman has a contract [with the PFL, and] we are working on extending this contract and [negotiating] a new one,” Rizvan Magomedov told ‘Ushatayka’. “Now, we’re talking about the next few years. He will definitely spend [some time] in this [promotion].” (via YouTube Auto-translate)

Well, what Usman’s manager had to say during the interview may not be something that Khabib Nurmagomedov‘s late father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, would love to hear. He always believed in Usman’s capabilities. In fact, ‘The Eagle’s father even claimed to have “envisioned” the now-Bellator champion becoming a world champion in the UFC. “He strongly believed in Usman and always said that he would be the future champion. I didn’t see the potential when he was 16 years old,” Khabab said in the recent past. However, there’s a twist in this tale, and everything is going according to plan.

Usman Nurmagomedov is waiting on Khabib’s protégé to get done with his lightweight business

Although it will take a few more years for Usman Nurmagomedov to make it to the UFC, his real plan for the UFC arrival is going pretty well. The 26-year-old, looking at the UFC lightweight division’s landscape at this moment, doesn’t think it will be wise to make his debut in the Las Vegas-based promotion now, given that his teammate and longtime friend is the champion.

Usman Nurmagomedov, a month after his win over Alexandr Shabliy, opened up on his UFC plans, claiming that they will come into effect when Islam Makhachev is done with his career. Makhachev is currently the reigning supreme as the 155-pound champion, with three title defenses. He does plan to go to welterweight someday and fight for the belt. But he’s still got a few possible contenders to face in lightweight since even Belal Muhammad, who’s a teammate, currently holds the welterweight throne.

For Usman, though, he’s waiting for Makhachev to sum up his career, which he believes could happen in a matter of a couple of years. “I’m waiting for Islam to finish his career and then I will [go for the UFC title]. I think if we get it right, we’ll be fighting in the UFC at 28. I’m 26 years old right now. Two years, I’ll get stronger and that’s it. Go into the UFC at 28 and compete until I’m 32,” Usman Nurmagomedov told ‘Gorilla Fighting’.
