Cormier revealed that when he joined the AKA gym, he ran all the wrestling practices. ‘DC’ is considered among the greatest wrestlers in UFC history and comes from a collegiate wrestling background and was member of the US World or Olympics wrestling team six times.

“Khabib and them knew how to ride the wrist a little bit. I was showing him just collegiate wrestling. So what we did Ben when those guys all were there and when I first got to AKA, I first started coaching I would run all the wrestling practices,” Cormier told Askren.

Cormier stated that he taught them basic collegiate wrestling positions, rules, and principles. “I taught these guys how to wrestle, I taught them standups, I taught them referee’s position, I taught them how to chop and ride. I taught him all those, like, base collegiate skills because my belief is if you want to wrestle in mixed martial arts you better learn to wrestle,” he added. Clearly, learning from one of the best helped Nurmagomedov be the most dominant force in the history of the promotion.
