UFC middleweight Sean Strickland has turned out to be one of the most interesting and entertaining characters in the MMA community owing to his brash personality, which he often brings forth in his interactions with the media. While this has certainly helped garner a fan base of his own, it appears to have rubbed another fellow fighter in the wrong way.

A prominent UFC welterweight who has also trained with former lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov recently opened up on his desire to face Strickland. While claiming that he wasn’t much of a fan of the number seventh-ranked middleweight, this fighter stated that he was ready to face him if the UFC gave him the opportunity to do so. Interestingly, along with Strickland, even Khamzat Chimaev seemed to be on his radars as he planned a move up to middleweight in the future.

UFC welterweight expresses dislike for Sean Strickland

The fighter we’re discussing here is number four-ranked welterweight Belal Muhammad. ‘Remember the Name’ has found himself in a rather unwanted situation after his hopes of receiving a title fight were shot down when Colby Covington was announced as the next contender in line for the welterweight title.

Expressing his frustration at the developments, Muhammad claimed that he might end up making a move up to middleweight at some point in time. This, he stated, was because he wanted to face someone who could get him “excited“. Setting his sights on Khamzat Chimaev, who is also rumored to be making a move up in weight class, Muhammad stated that he would do the same in order to match up with the Chechen.

“I’m gonna go look for Chimaev again. He moved up. I can fight at 185. I’m not worried about it so I’ll move up, look for him, maybe he’ll finally come out and play that again.” He stated.

The 34-year-old also had another top-ranked middleweight in his mind. Expressing his dislike for Sean Strickland, Muhammad expressed that it was another match-up that could get him excited.

“If I’m not gonna get a title fight just give me the fight really get me excited. Give me like a Sean Strickland. Somebody you know I dislike, somebody that I hate, that’ll be fun to punch in their mouth.” he said, expressing his dislike for ‘Tarzan’.

While that was Belal Muhammad’s personal take on Strickland; for fans, there’s no denying that a fight between the two could turn out to be a massive hit.

Belal Muhammad on the recent developments in the Welterweight division

The 34-year-old’s plans on stepping up a weight class could come down to his disappointment at not being given a title shot at welterweight. Muhammad, who has been on a great run of form, was taken aback when Covington was announced as the backup for the fight between Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman at UFC 286.

Considering all these, it doesn’t come as a surprise to see Belal Muhammad talk about moving to middleweight. Maybe an exciting match-up with Strickland or even Chimaev might just be the next best step for him at this point.
