Khabib's plans exposed—Is McGregor ready to face the storm, or is he all talk?

Khabib Nurmagomedov, after receiving a savage trash-talking from Conor McGregor at the pre-fight press conference for their UFC 229 clash almost six years ago would remain eerily calm. “Alhamdulillah [praise be to God] I will smash your boy,” ‘The Eagle would calmly but ominously repeat after ‘Mac’s verbal onslaught.

‘Mac’, in the prime of both his fighting and verbal abilities, had insulted everything the Dagestani holds dear, including his family. That’s why many expected their fight to be an electrifying affair and it indeed turned out to be true. Not only was the fight an absolute cracker, which Khabib won in the fourth round, but the post-fight shenanigans were even more memorable.

This iconic fight is the gift that keeps giving, as another version of it has now been released by the UFC, showing the extent of the bad blood between the two legendary fighters.

Khabib Nurmagomedov asked to stick and move by corner against ‘Mac’

After the contentious build-up to their fight, Khabib Nurmagomedov came to fight against Conor MacGregor like a man possessed. The usually respectful Khabib, who makes it a point to not hurt his opponents otherwise, clearly wanted to hurt McGregor or worse. The Irishman seemed remarkably battered after the end of the second round, which Islam Makhachev pointed out to ‘The Eagle’

Khabib, he’s dying there on his stool. Look at him, just take a look. He couldn’t walk,” Makhachev said, as McGregor slumped on his stool, visibly tired. That seemed to embolden the Dagestani champ, who looked more willing to stand and bang with McGregor than take him down.

But after McGregor, who is among the best-ever strikers in the sport, managed to catch ‘The Eagle’ with a few stiff ones, Khabib’s coach, Javier Mendez shouted, “Cain, Cain Velasquez style.” The coach wanted the Dagestani to fight in the same perpetual motion style as the former heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez, who was never a stationary target for his opponents.

Meanwhile, Islam Makhachev, in the corner, was as viciously angry as Nurmagomedov, shouting at the latter to “break his (McGregor’s) arm,” at various points of the fight. So incensed was the Dagestani camp that they would try to do after the fight what even Nurmagomedov couldn’t do: sleep Conor McGregor.

Conor McGregor assaulted by Khabib’s cornermen

The full extent of ‘The Eagle’s belligerence and animosity for the former two-division champ has been revealed as the UFC has released a video of the bout without the commentary. The audience can now hear more of what the fighters said to each other during that historic fight. While every break at the end of the round saw the two men exchange heated words, not much of that is audible in the video. However, even the normally respectful Nurmagomedov gave in to his emotions as he walked towards McGregor threateningly, and asked him brusquely: “What? F***ing b***h.”

But this was nothing compared to what happened immediately after the fight ended. All hell, as they say, broke loose as Khabib, undoubtedly on an adrenaline rush from the fight, jumped over the cage to attack McGregor’s cornerman and professional troll, Dillon Danis for being lippy.

This was cue for two members of Nurmagomedov’s team to jump into the octagon, and assault McGregor. Dana White and UFC security intervened to break up the brawl before anyone could get seriously hurt.
