Umar Nurmagomedov, the cousin of UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov, was scheduled to fight bantamweight Cory Sandhagen on August 5. However, Umar Nurmagomedov withdrew from the fight due to a shoulder injury. Rob Font replaced him, and lost to Sandhagen by a unanimous decision. The Dagestani fighter took to his social media handle and detailed what happened to him. The 27-year-old said he tore his shoulder ligaments and that fighting against Sandhagen with such a severe injury would have been stupidity. 

Presently, the undefeated fighter is motivated, and plans to go forward with his fighting career. UFC veteran Josh Thomson commended Umar Nurmagomedov for his determination. His brother and former UFC lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, also made sure that he lifted the spirit of Umar with his words.

UFC veteran motivates Umar Nurmagomedov

Recently, Umar Nurmagomedov posted a video of him training hard in the gym. Thomson, the former Strikeforce world lightweight champion, came across the post. The perseverance of the young fighter highly moved him, and the MMA fighter shared the video on his Instagram story.

Along with the video, Thomson wrote: “The comeback for injury at the place he is at in his career will only make him physically and mentally stronger than he was #motivation.Umar shared the motivational words of the UFC veteran and detailed his future plans 44 days after the horrific injury.

The Dagestani fighter wrote that he still has three months of rehabilitation. He also mentioned that he would come back to the UFC to fight before Ramadan. Umar has been making waves in the bantamweight division, winning all four of his UFC fights. In his most recent fight, he defeated Raoni Barcelos in the first round in January.

Khabib Nurmagomedov has faith in his cousin

The UFC Hall of Famer Khabib Nurmagomedov has always been a great supporter of every other Dagestani fighter. ‘The Eagle’ is someone who many surging fighters look up to as their biggest inspiration. Recently, the former UFC lightweight champion shared a video of Umar doing rigorous training. Along with the video, he asked his followers to “remember this guy.”

Clearly, Khabib Nurmagomedov has a lot of faith in his cousin. He believes that Umar Nurmagomedov will make a comeback to the UFC octagon stronger than before. Even Umar made it clear that he would never give up on his fighting career.
