The rivalry between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor is one of the most vicious rivalries in the UFC history. However, when they took their beef inside the cage at UFC 229 in 2018, ‘The Eagle’ defeated ‘The Notorious’ via submission in the fourth round.

This intriguing lightweight fight remains the highest-selling UFC fight in the promotion’s history to date. Later, after his loss, McGregor challenged the Dagestan native for a rematch. However, ‘The Eagle’ refused to fight him again. This agitated the Irishman, and he made substandard remarks about the people of Dagestan.

Although it has been over three years since the incident, some Dagestani fighters haven’t forgotten about it. Recently, a fresh UFC flyweight prospect, Muhammad Mokaev, talked about the same in an interview. Mokaev, despite being sponsored by McGregor‘s brand, won’t hesitate to demand an apology from him.

He said, “Initially, I was getting paid $5000 for each fight. He [Conor McGregor] purchased TIDL before the [Dustin] Poirier rematch and I thought they would terminate my contract.”

“Especially if someone talked about Dagestan. I thought they would terminate my deal. But Conor [McGregor] texted me and they raise the pay to $8000… I know they support me. But when I see Conor, he will have to apologize for all he said about my people. The apology is primary, and it matters more than the sponsorship,” he added.

“I believe Conor would gain respect from it. He has to do it. Because he talked about the nation, not just one person. I can’t ask him to do via text message. He said things publicly, so the apology has to be public too. I believe he will apologize. I’m sure about it,” Mokaev concluded.

Will Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Conor McGregor 2 ever happen

After successfully defending his lightweight title against the Irishman, Nurmagomedov competed in two more fights. He defended his lightweight two more times and hung up his gloves forever after the demise of his father.

Meanwhile, McGregor is currently out of action because of a leg injury he suffered in his last outing, a trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. Although he has hinted at a return this year, he wants to compete for the welterweight title.

Because of these two major reasons, the rematch is far from possible. Also, ‘The Eagle’ has never shown any interest in returning to the octagon, even if he was offered a lucrative amount of money. Hence, fans might never see this lightweight showdown come to fruition ever again.
