Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Conor McGregor’s rivalry is one of the most fierce in all combat sports. Coming off a two-year layoff, McGregor looked to get back to his former champ status by taking on the eagle.

Khabib on McGregor’s comments about his father

Throughout the build-up, McGregor’s insults kept getting more and more personal. He made comments regarding Khabib’s family, religion, and general way of life. Most recently, McGregor put out a tweet (now removed) making an insensitive joke regarding the untimely death of Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, Khabib’s father and coach. It’s been three years since their last meeting in the octagon and McGregor still hasn’t had enough. However, in a recent appearance on Mike Tyson’s Hotboxin, Khabib revealed how his late father never really held a grudge against McGregor for all his antics and blasphemy.

” My dad was like a different level about like the situation here. He always like, his heart was like so clean you know.”

Ever since their meeting at UFC 229, both Khabib and McGregor have gone down very different paths. While Khabib Nurmagomedov defended his belt another two times and retire on top, McGregor is now at the lowest point in his fighting career, having lost two back-to-back bouts against Dustin Poirier.

We’ve seen numerous examples of fighters burying the hatchet and moving once the fight is over. But it seems like this rivalry isn’t over yet

Ever since his retirement, Khabib has been working towards training his younger teammates as a coach. The likes of Islam Makhachev and Usman Nurmagomedov under his tutelage. As a coach, Khabib is intent on sharing his fighting knowledge and insight with the next generation. The Eagle is also the new owner of the Gorilla Fighting Championship, an MMA promotion based in Dagestan.

With all this going on, Khabib Nurmagomedov seems to be enjoying this new chapter in his life. While he is still in touch with the sport of MMA, the chances of him making a comeback seem pretty slim.
