There are perhaps very few lightweight fighters as accomplished as Khabib Nurmagomedov. Especially when it comes to wrestling. Now, a retired ‘coach’ Khabib is training great talents from Russia as he tries to pass on the title to someone new. And perhaps he just found someone.

After having a dominant career at the UFC, Nurmagomedov stepped back. His retirement came to everyone as a shock, and a feeling of loss soon took over. Now, Nurmagomedov trains fellow fighters and makes sure his region gets plenty of representation in the sport. Here’s his latest announcement about a fighter.

Nurmagomedov trains wrestlers at his own gym. First, he brought the world Islam Makhachev and now Amru Magomedov. The lightweight fighter hasn’t made a very big name for himself yet, but with Nurmagomedov’s blessing, he just might. While Nurmagomedov called Makhachev the “No. 1 pound-for-pound in the world,” after he earned the lightweight title, Magomedov is his new pick.

“I hold on to it myself and also share….The best lightweight in the world (of) unknown fighters)))” Nurmagomedov declared proudly in his Instagram stories. So who is Amru Magomedov? The fighter holds a 7-0 professional record and has claimed a lightweight title.

He became the UAE Warriors lightweight champion in the very first round of the bout. Submitting his opponent, Jakhongir Jumaev, to earn the vacant lightweight title. Now that he is the reigning champion, it will be exciting to see who will he defend his title against next.

The win came in October, and it looks like Team Khabib celebrated it a lot. However, training never stops in Dagestan and Magomedov is back in ‘Coach’ Khabib’s hands quickly. Taking his grappling skills to the next level shouldn’t be a challenge with the former UFC lightweight champ’s assistance. But will his advice affect one of his former rivals?

Nurmagomedov on Tony Ferguson

Tony Ferguson is about to try and make his comeback by winning against Paddy Pimblett at UFC 296. A much-awaited bout that will see what many hope to be a brand-new Ferguson. However, perhaps training with David Goggins might not be enough as long as this one factor affects Ferguson, according to Nurmagomedov.

“He is 38 years old,” Nurmagomedov said in an interview last year. “Tell me how he can make a comeback? He was dominated in his last three bouts. Different styles – a striker, a grappler… Dariush, Oliveira, Gaethje, they all dominated him both standing up and on the ground. When you are 38, I believe, you have to pull the brakes.” Clearly, ‘The Eagle’ believes Ferguson should stop. And all he’s doing is actually going in full throttle. Will he emerge as the winner? Only time will tell.
