Oliveira vs. Makhachev was one of the most highly anticipated fights ever in the UFC. It should be no surprise that Makhachev took the camp so seriously. As a lot of fans looked up to him to be Khabib Nurmagomedov‘s second coming in the UFC, he had big shoes to fill. Islam Makhachev’s hard work and investment in the camp finally paid off in Abu Dhabi.

During the post-fight interview, Makhachev thanked Khabib Nurmagomedov and his late father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov. The new lightweight champion has not set his sights on the #1 spot on the pound-for-pound list. He called out featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski for a showdown in Australia.
