Kamaru Usman is indeed one of the best fighters in the history of mixed martial arts. ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ destroyed every opponent he’s ever faced at the UFC. Usman is also the reigning UFC welterweight champion and stands first in the promotion’s pound-for-pound rankings.
Usman holds has won many awards and has broken many records as a professional fighter. Earlier this evening, the Nigerian won another big award for his performances this year. Kamaru Usman won the “Fighter of the Year” award at the World MMA Awards ceremony. His lead coach Trevor Wittman accepted the prestigious award on his behalf since Usman was away spending time with his family.

Kamaru Usman put up three incredible performances this year. At UFC 258, Usman defeated Gilbert Burns via a third-round TKO. Usman beat Jorge Masvidal at UFC 261 following a second-round knockout. At UFC 268 the Nigerian defeated his rival Colby Covington following by unanimous decision.
After his unanimous decision win against Colby Covington at UFC 268, Usman said in his post-fight press conference that he will be taking time off to spend with his family. He is doing just that right now. “You know my daughter’s seven years old. She don’t give a sh*t if daddy has 20 million dollars stacked up. You know when she’s 18 and what she’s going to say is, where were you… So you got to weigh it out and right now those are the important things to me,” he said.

What’s next for Kamaru Usman?

The Nigerian Nightmare has had five successful title defenses ever since he won the UFC welterweight gold in March 2019. Usman is unbeatable in his current form and is not scared to take on any opponent. Many believe Leon Edwards will be his next opponent and will challenge him for the welterweight title.
At his post-fight press conference after UFC 268, Usman also hinted at taking an exciting fight up with the boxing legend, Canelo Alvarez. However, Alvarez did not seem very keen on the fight taking place. Vicente Luque is another possible opponent for the champion since Leon Edwards isn’t going to be taking on Jorge Masvidal at UFC 269.
