Chris Weidman freshly achieved a much-needed victory against Bruno Silva but at what cost? Many watched the matchup unfold live, and those who missed it could see in Bruno Silva’s emotional state that something had gone very wrong during the bout.
Soon, a slow-motion replay would reveal it all. Weidman had accidentally poked Silva in both of his eyes within seconds of him going down to the mat. The ending of it was highly controversial, and many people voiced their opinions about it. One of them, was the BMF champ, Justin Gaethje. But his concern was more technical than personal.

The UFC has the famous MMA gloves that you may see everywhere in every fight. Perhaps even across promotions. However, Justin Gaethje is of the opinion that the promotion should change up the gloves so these eye-pokes can be banished from the Octagon for good.

“Too bad UFC don’t want to change those shit gloves.” He said from his X handle and then, once he started getting responses, he immediately got into a spat with a fan online who claimed that Gaethje was trying to “sell” his own brand of gloves.
“Doesn’t have to be our gloves just needs to be better gloves. These gloves force you into a bad position when your hand is relaxed. They cut the circulation off to the fingers. They put so much pressure on the hand between the fingers…” Gaethje would argue back just to receive more flack from the same fan.
Clearly, the BMF champion is highly passionate about this one. However, for now, it would appear that his biggest concern might be preparing to take on Max Holloway for the BMF belt at UFC 300. Gaethje has made waves in his career so far, earning the belt too.

Justin Gaethje fought off Dustin Poirier to rightfully earn the BMF belt. The title itself is controversial and doesn’t necessarily represent a weight class like all the other belts do. However, for both the men fighting for it, the story was somewhat similar.

Gaethje couldn’t take on Islam Makhachev for the lightweight belt, as that opportunity had already been passed to Charles Oliveira. Max Holloway, on the other hand, had already lost to Alexander Volkanovski on three separate occasions and didn’t have a shot in sight soon.
