Diego Ferreira beat Michael Johnson via a knockout at UFC Vegas 73. Johnson and Ferreira opened the main card at UFC Fight Night: Dern vs. Hill. After a back-and-forth first round, Perreira landed the perfect right hand early in the second round to end the business for the night. With the win, the Brazilian has snapped his three-fight losing skid. Meanwhile, in the main event, Dern aced a unanimous decision win over Angela Hill.

A veteran of the sport, Johnson came into UFC Vegas 73 with a 13-14 record. His resume showed wins over lightweight stalwarts like Dustin Poirier and Tony Ferguson. Furthermore, he had fought the cream of the crop at 155 lbs, including former champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and former interim champion Justin Gaethje.

After going on a 4-fight skid from 2019 to 2021, ‘The Menace’ won two out of his three fights in 2022. He had won two out of his last five before facing Ferreira. He had also called out Conor McGregor after the Irishman’s recent appearance at BKFC 41.

Diego Ferreira, 38, was on a three-fight skid as he faced Johnson. His last win was against Anthony Pettis in 2020. The Brazilian was looking to snap his losing streak against the veteran Johnson and accomplished the mission in stunning fashion. Michael Johnson and Diego Ferreira started off strong in their fight at UFC Vegas 73. The heavy-handed Johnson kept Ferreira at bay, occasionally landing clean shots. Meanwhile, Ferreira invested in kicks to level the playing field in a back-and-forth first round.

The second round started off in a similar fashion. However, Ferreira caught Johnson with a perfect overhand right moments later. Johnson landed on the canvas stiff from the punch as Ferreira officially ended his losing streak with style.

That devastating knockout at the UFC Apex fetched reactions from a lot of fans and pros. Johnson’s former opponent and top lightweight Dustin Poirier shared concern for the 36-year-old.

Several other fans and pros also showed concern for ‘The Menace’ after witnessing the knockout. Many of them drew parallel with his knockout loss against Josh Emmett in 2019.
