The UFC 281 is all set to inaugurate with grandeur. The hugely awaited fight between Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier and Michael Chandler will probably be one of the biggest crowd-pullers of this event. At this point, the BMF of the UFC, Jorge Masvidal, gave out his views about how this fight may go. Masvidal has been in the organization for quite some time now and knows both the fighters pretty closely. It was apparent from ‘Gamebred’s’ words that he was counting on Poirier for this fight. However, Michael Chandler wouldn’t necessarily be too happy with ‘Gamebred’s’ opinion.

Masvidal also described the reasons why he gave an edge to Poirier over Chandler regarding this fight. According to him, Poirier’s overall sense within the fight would provide him with an advantage.
Jorge Masvidal thinks Dustin Poirier has better situational awareness
‘Gambred’ went on to break down this fight as he stated, “I have been watching Chandler for a very long time. I don’t know but I think he’s a great wrestler.” Masvidal’s experience could be trusted owing to the fact that he has been with the UFC for a long time now.
‘The BMF’ further iterated, “But I think Dustin smokes him. He knows the moments where the bullets are flying”. Applauding Poirier’s composure, Masvidal also said, “Dustin finds a way always to remain calm and cool and Dustin’s gonna catch him.”

Although, only time will clarify whether Masvidal’s predictions will come to life or not. But, ‘The Diamond’ seems to be in line with Masvidal’s words. His two back-to-back wins against ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor in their fight trilogy is one of the glaring proof of his awesome understanding of a fight. Dustin went one down as he lost the first fight of this trilogy against McGregor.
But Poirier changed his style entirely from the second fight and started to use more kicks to destabilize McGregor. As a result, he managed to defeat McGregor in their trilogy 2-1.
Masvidal applauds Poirier’s transitional judgment
Masvidal’s words, “He knows the moments where the bullets are flying” implied that Poirier has a better transitional capacity than Chandler. Masvidal had already opinionated that Poirier has better situational awareness. This, in turn, would provide him with a better idea to switch his style from defending to striking or going to the ground. Chandler might struggle to cope with the transitions of Poirier.

A lot of MMA fans bear testimony to Poirier’s awesome change of fighting style. He used his awareness to adjudge McGregor’s weakness in his legs. Despite primarily being a boxer, he used a lot of leg kicks in his second fight with McGregor. It also worked to great effect as he beat the legs of McGregor really badly and finally won the bout. Hence, a lot of fans might agree with Masvidal’s analysis.
