Wait! Is Gilbert Burns retired from the sport? Quite shocking, right? Well, that’s what former UFC fighter and three-time title challenger Chael Sonnen believes. ‘The American Gangster’ recently cornered Colby Covington for his fight against Joaquin Buckley. Immediately after that, the former controversial star is back in his business as an analyst. In his latest conversation with Daniel Cormier on the ‘Good Guy/Bad Guy’ podcast, Sonnen put forth another controversial statement about Burns and this drew a sharp reaction from ‘Durinho’ as well as the MMA community.

While having a conversation about Joaquin Buckley’s career and his future opponents, Chael Sonnen claimed that Gilbert Burns might not fight at a high level again, “In Gilbert Burns, by the way, I know he is in the rankings; he is no longer in the pool. He is officially retired from the sport. We have been hearing that rumor,” said Sonnen.

H͏e pointed out ͏Burns’ rece͏nt ͏s͏truggles back his cl͏aims up, ͏as ͏the Brazil͏ia͏n st͏and͏out is currentl͏y fa͏cing a͏ tough͏ stretch ͏with thre͏e͏ consecutive ͏losses. Once a feared contender in ͏th͏e welterweight div͏ision, Burns’ momentum has slowed followi͏n͏g hard-fough͏t defeats to Be͏lal M͏uham͏mad, Jack Della Maddalena, and Sean Brady. Well, Burns’s career might be going through a pretty tough phase for now but that doesn’t mean that he is close to retiring.

As the former welterweight title contender witnessed Chael Sonnen’s remarks about him, he took to his X handle to call out the former fighter and fact-check the former UFC middleweight. ‘Durhino’ stated that Sonnen’s statement was disrespectful towards him, and in revenge, he revealed Sonnen’s number, “THE LEVEL OF DISRESPECT @ChaelSonnen WOW NEVER EXPECTED THAT FROM YOU!! STILL WITH THIS NUMBER? +1 (503) 754-0207 CALLING YOU TO SEE WHATS UP!”

Did Gilbert Burns really reveal Chael Sonnen’s number to the world? Does that number really belong to Chael Sonnen? Well, as of now, nothing is certain but it does belong to someone from Portland, Oregon and it’s now been turned off. Interestingly, ‘The American Gangster’ does live in Oregon. Regardless, in addition to Gilbert Burns, former welterweight fighter, Jorge Masivdal has come forward to pour gasoline on an already burning fire.

Jorge Masvidal and fans call out Chael Sonnen for misinformation

Initially, both of them were inseparable but everything changed when Covington made remarks about Masvidal’s family.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Chael Sonnen's claim about Gilbert Burns' retirement just another publicity stunt or a harsh reality?

Have an interesting take?

Despite duking it out at UFC 272, ‘Gamebred’ couldn’t exact revenge on ‘Chaos’, losing via unanimous decision. Not one to take things lying down, on March 22, 2022, Masvidal confronted Covington outside a Miami Beach steakhouse and landed a sucker punch, leading to the latter suing the ‘backyard brawler’ for a misdemeanor battery.

Colby Covington is riding a two-fight losing streak while Gilbert Burns is riding a three-fight losing streak, leading to one fan writing,“It’s time for Colby vs Gilbert, both so washed it’s 50/50.” Furthermore, a social media fan asserted that Burns has been hanging out with Renato Moicano a bit too much, as his sarcasm level is off the charts now, “Bro has been hanging around Moicano too much.”

Chael Sonnen has been one of the most loud-mouthed fighters in MMA history. His back and forth with Anderson Silva, Wanderleo Silva, and his rough comments on Brazil made him one of the most notorious stars in the promotion at that time. In that light, a fan wrote, “‘Never expected that from you’ … he clearly forgot what made Chael famous.”

Furthermore, another social media user doubled down on the same comments, “He’s exactly the guy to expect that from… google him one time. Foolish.” Last but not least, a social media user seemed to side with Sonnen, saying, “Chael dont give shit bout burns im pretty sure.”

Well, Chael Sonnen has yet to make any comments on Gilbert Burns’s doxxing him. Regardless, what are your thoughts on their back-and-forth? State your thoughts in the comments below.
