Colby Covington recently made headlines after issuing a death threat to UFC commentator Jon Anik. This prompted reactions from many fans and personalities from the MMA community. A lot of fighters also commented on the situation and one of those fighters is Covington’s bitter rival, Jorge Masvidal.

‘Chaos’ and ‘Gamebred’ haven’t been on good terms since 2018, but things didn’t escalate until the brawl in Miami last year. Covington would subsequently file a lawsuit against Masvidal for allegedly assaulting him. However, both fighters are back on the fighting scene as they gear up for their respective bouts.

When UFC president Dana White decided to give Colby Covington the opportunity to fight for the welterweight title next, he mentioned that it was due to ‘Chaos’ accepting the role of the backup fighter for the UFC 286 headliner on a day’s notice. But UFC commentator Jon Anik had a different choice. He thought Belal Muhammad deserved the chance to fight for the belt next since he was riding on a 4-fight winning streak. He shared a tweet regarding his opinion.

However, this did not sit well with the controversial fighter as he delivered a serious rant on Anik. Covington threatened to kill the commentator for sharing his opinion on who needs to fight for the championship. He even warned him that they didn’t live too far from each other and even brought his children into the topic, which did not sit well with the MMA community.

Jorge Masvidal shares his opinion on Covington’s death threat

Jorge Masvidal made an appearance on the popular show ‘MMA Hour’ and shares his comments on the former interim champion’s death threats toward the famous UFC commentator. He mentioned how it made no sense for a fighter to threaten a person who has no fighting background whatsoever.

Masvidal believes it would have been okay if Covington had threatened someone like Daniel Cormier. He said, “I get it if he tries [threatening] somebody like Chael Sonnen’s a** or f***** Daniel Cormier because they are fighters and whatever.” He added, “You’re [Covington] just straight up trying a journalist, a civilian. It’s [Jon Anik] not a combat f***** veteran.”

‘Gamebred’ then went on to say that Colby Covington is afraid to confront real fighters, so he targeted a commentator. He said, “Why doesn’t he talk like that to these other guys that who used to fight, you know? He won’t because he’s scared of them.” Masvidal added, “He will talk like that to Anik… because he’s not a fighter.”

Masvidal and others certainly didn’t appreciate such aggressive words from a fighter toward a member of UFC’s broadcast team. But some believe that Colby Covington was not serious about his death threat. UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping believes that ‘Chaos’ was just being a character and didn’t really mean his words. Fans will find out if this situation escalates any further in the coming weeks.
