UFC’s one and only BMF Jorge Masvidal returns to action this weekend in his hometown of Miami, Florida. The two-time title challenger will face Gilbert Burns in the co-main event of UFC 287. This fight could be a must-win situation for Masvidal, who is on a three-fight losing skid. While a loss would send him further down the rankings and diminish his star power, a win would shoot him right back into the title picture.
‘Gamebred’ recently sat down for a chat ahead of his UFC 287 bout. While sitting in the barber’s chair and getting his beard trimmed, the 39-year-old discussed his life and career plans with ESPN’s Brett Okamoto. During the conversation, Masvidal made an interesting revelation about tattoos.

As the barber made his way around Jorge Masvidal’s neck beard and his signature ‘Gamebred’ tattoo, Okamoto asked him if he was done with tattoos. Masvidal replied, “I wanna say I’m done, but I’m not. They hurt me, man. It pi**ed me off.”
He continued, “You know, my whole life, if I feel pain, I give it back or I release it in some way. [If] I’m running and it’s hurting, you keep pushing through that run. And you know, you get punched, you punch back. Things like that you know? [When] I feel the pain, I’m used to releasing it.”

He further explained, “When you’re getting a tattoo, you’re just taking that pain and you’re just sitting there. F***ing never ending. But here and there I see some things I want to do, you know?”
Masvidal’s response also highlights his mentality as a fighter, who always wants to dish out pain. However, for someone who holds such a view on tattoos, he has a few good tattoos on his body.
The meanings behind Masvidal’s tattoos
Jorge Masvidal does not have as many tattoos as many other fighters in the UFC. However, the ones he has are iconic. Perhaps the most notable tattoo he has is the ‘Gamebred’ etched on the left side of his neck. Speaking of it, he said, “Gamebred is an animal that has bred to be game.” He further added, “Game means the ability to fight through pain and fatigue. It’s not about how your skill levels are, or if you’re good, bad, or world champion. Bred is just, you have a pit bull and another pit bull–you bred a pit bull.”

On the inside of his right forearm, he has his daughter’s name “AVA” beautifully inked across a lipstick mark. This one is meant as a symbol of his love for his daughter.
Before his grudge match against Colby Covington at UFC 272, Masvidal flaunted a new tattoo. Near his left shoulder was an impression of his flying knee knockout of Ben Askren. In the background of it, there was a tree and the surrounding circle had colorful stones.
