Very few people try to get under the skin of someone like Masvidal. Leading MMA journalist Ariel Helwani is one of the few people who managed to put ‘Gamebred’ on the defensive during an interview. Masvidal recently shared a tense moment from their interview on his Facebook page.
Jorge Masvidal gets visibly uncomfortable with Ariel Helwani
Prior to his BMF fight against Nate Diaz at UFC 244, Masvidal sat down with Ariel Helwani to have a chat. During the interview, the pair talked about a lot of topics ranging from Masvidal’s childhood and his first UFC PPV main event at UFC 244.
Masvidal started off by describing his sixteen years of fighting career and the challenges he had to face. He particularly emphasized how the loss to Stephen ‘Wonderboy‘ Thompson lit a fire under his belly to change his mentality.
It was about ten minutes into the interview that Helwani mentioned Masvidal’s jail time. “We don’t need to talk about that. We’ll skip that one, “ said Masvidal, immediately shutting down the conversation. However, Helwani did not let go of the topic that easily. When inquired about the reason behind going to jail, Masvidal said it was because of some poor decisions he made during his younger days.
Notwithstanding his answer, Helwani pressed on and asked Masvidal about his father spending time in jail. Masvidal looked apprehensive about answering this question but explained the story to Helwani, anyway.
It was a short edit of these moments that Masvidal shared on Facebook, which caught the attention of fans who found Helwani’s insistence on the sensitive topic rather distasteful.
