Can Jorge Masvidal still make a title run, or is his time in the UFC spotlight over?

Jorge Masvidal is not happy being retired. ‘Gamebred’ of course, retired last year but is looking to come back to the Dana White-led promotion, where he was one of the biggest stars. And already, even before he’s back, the former BMF champ is making plans to fight for the title.

In an interview with Brett Okamoto on the ESPN MMA YouTube channel, the Cuban-American said that if UFC matchmaker Hunter Campbell called him to ask whom he would like to face, he would immediately say Leon Edwards. Why? Well because of their unfinished business and the fact that he could conceivably get a title shot right after it.

“Gimme f***ing Leon Edwards bro, let’s f***ing stop with the bull***t bro. Is he a up and coming guy, what would you call him, a veteran? An ex-champion. He’s 0-1 against me, man. What are we talking about bro. Leon let’s f***ing go. You ain’t f***ing doing s***t. End of the year, next year, that’s it, let’s get it done. And then after I knock his a** out, guess what. They gotta give me a title shot,” an animated Masvidal told Okamoto.

Because Masvidal claimed he was 0-1 against Edwards, some might get the impression the two have fought in the UFC. Not so. In fact, what ‘Gamebred’ was talking about was their infamous backstage brawl in 2019, where Masvidal gave ‘Rocky’ a “three piece with a soda.” By which he meant that he assaulted the Englishman after the two exchanged heated words backstage at a UFC event.

While Edwards has lamented the fact that he couldn’t fight Masvidal in the cage before he retired, he did feel that Cuban-American was not the fighter he once was. This and the fact that even a win over the 39-year-old, past his prime Masvidal, wouldn’t do much for him professionally makes many doubt if ‘Rocky’ will even accept a Masvidal fight. Not to worry, however, since Masvidal has another, blockbuster opponent in mind.

Jorge Masvidal wants to fight Michael Chandler if Edwards not interested

Jorge Masvidal doubts Conor McGregor will ever be back in the Octagon again! ‘Mac’, of course, was set to face Michael Chandler at UFC 303 earlier this year but pulled out due to an injury. Now he is desperately calling on Dana White and co. for a date this year. But Masvidal, of course, doesn’t believe it and thinks Chandler’s waiting two years to fight the Irishman has been in vain.

But, thankfully for Chandler, ‘Gamebred’ has volunteered to fill in for the Irishman and face ‘Iron’.“I think [the Chandler fight] would be a very fun fight, a very big fight… I’ll knock Michael Chandler dead,” Masvidal has said in a series of interviews recently. And while Edwards may most likely not want to fight him, Chandler has already accepted!

“There is zero doubt that Chandler vs. Masvidal does massive numbers and brings the type of violence that UFC fans deserve,” Chandler told ‘TMZ Sports.’ Of course Chandler, without a doubt will not fight Masvidal as long as there is a chance he could fight McGregor, that is a big fight that could be made in the future. Especially if the former Bellator champ can beat McGregor and get the rub and increase in star power that would lead to. Not to mention fighting this version of Masvidal would be easy pickings for Chandler, at least on paper.

Of course, all of that depends on Dana White and the UFC and if they even let Masvidal in the promotion, which cannot be said for certain at the moment. What are your thoughts on Masvidal wanting to fight Edwards and Chandler?
