It has been a while since we saw Jorge ‘Gamebred’ Masvidal fight. The former UFC BMF champion last fought at UFC 287 against Gilbert Burns and lost via a unanimous decision. This was his 4th straight loss since winning the BMF title and Masvidal decided to call it quits in front of his hometown fans in Miami. However, the latest developments point to him gearing up for a return against the man against whom he won last, Nate Diaz.
What if we were to tell you that he could fight Diaz all over again? And no, it won’t be them running back their BMF bout that ended in a doctor stoppage. The two have been occasionally beefing back and forth since their UFC 244 bout in November 2019, and now it would appear that the pair might trade leather again, but this time in the squared circle.

A boxing bout between Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz was rumored to be in the works earlier this year. While there is not much clarity on what banner the two will fight under, reports state that they have Dana White‘s blessings for the same. Now this an important little detail, since Masvidal is still under contract with the UFC despite his retirement. Reported first by Happy Punch, it would appear that a bout is set for March, 2024.
Rumored to be set in Las Vegas, the specifics of the bout are still shrouded in mystery for many. Diaz has previously boxed and lost against prize-fighter Jake Paul (who interestingly broke this news in a deleted tweet), while Masvidal has never professionally boxed. For someone who’s never worn the 12-16 Oz gloves, ‘Gamebred’ sure is confident.
“YOU’RE DEAD @NateDiaz209″ he posted on his X handle recently. In a short and quick interview of his taken on the go, he also predicted the end of his boxing match against Diaz. “(If) me and Nate were to box, I’ll leave him in a box.”

Another funny little detail about Diaz and Masvidal rematching in boxing is that the last time they fought, they made boxing wait. DAZN delayed the Canelo Alvarez-Sergey Kovalev fight since their schedule clashed with the BMF title fight between Diaz and Masvidal on November 2, 2019. This news showed the sheer star power that Diaz and Masvidal wielded at the time, and the spectacle that was the inaugural BMF bout.
Clearly, the confidence is soaring high for Masvidal here. So far, Diaz is yet to answer back but perhaps he’ll get to it when the two are in the ring. But do you know who doesn’t think it’s a great idea?

Chael Sonnen is of the opinion that the boxing matchup is simply not a great idea for either of the the fighters. Mostly because boxing can be an expensive business and ‘Uncle Chael’ is worried that the ones losing their money would be Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz and not some promotion.
“My fear is that Nate and/or Jorge are the ones putting the money. I don’t want them losing their money. I don’t want them doing that, and I don’t know that they are. I’m just suggesting on this piece of information that I got,” Sonnen told his viewers in a video.

Now, the fear is certainly legitimate, and everyone knows that boxing can be a risky business. Will the two fighters end up pooling their own resources just to make the match happen? Or will a promotion like Misfits Boxing take it all up? We shall find out in the days to come.
