UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones is preparing for a fight against Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 this November and fans are eager for the matchup. However, on the other hand, Tom Aspinall is also in the scene and has been patiently waiting for his chance at the title bout against Jones since the year before. These calls for the fight have not been answered by ‘Bones’ yet and have resulted in him being on the receiving end of harsh criticism. With Aspinall being the interim champion, many analysts and UFC fans think he is the one who deserves to go up against Jones. However, that narrative seems to be changing after a video went viral featuring the English star.
After Aspinall secured an impressive 60-second interim title defense against Curtis Blaydes, fans automatically speculated whether Aspinall would fight Miocic or Jones. However, there is a slight problem because both Jones 37 and Miocic 41 have previously hinted that they might retire regardless of the results of this fight. This caused Aspinall and Dana White to both be a little frustrated. “If both retire? F*cking that’ll suck,” White disclosed to MMA Junkie.
The UFC CEO also claimed that he could only guess what might happen now. If Jones wins, he cannot ignore the calls to fight against Aspinall, who might be the biggest threat to ‘Bones’, according to many veterans, as that can cause a big dent in the champion’s legacy. However, it might not be the case as Aspinall, aka ‘Honey Badger’, was recently seen training with Ugo Monye and honing his wrestling skills, which left many doubting his abilities. The ex-English Rugby Union player was grappling with Aspinall and it looked like the interim champ was having a hard time, even though he could floor the player.

Many UFC veterans, including Renato Moicano, have picked Tom Aspinall to beat Jon Jones on his podcast. He recently claimed on his podcast, “Jon Jones is not in his prime anymore. Do you remember Dominick Reyes? He was searching for him. Thiago Santos was searching for him. At the end of his career, he was not the same Jon Jones – 23 years old knocking Shogun out. Aspinall is right now what Jon Jones used to be.”
However, the fan sentiment seems to be changing now as looking at the Instagram video, a handful of social media users came forward to express their concern, saying that Jones was the best P4P who would be hard to defeat for Aspinall. Rugby and MMA met in this unique fight, and UFC buffs took this as a chance to comment on the highly anticipated Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall bout.

Fans were not satisfied with Tom Aspinal wrestling the rugby player. They praised the rugby player more than they praised the heavyweight fighter. Even though Daniel Cormier stated that Bones might get his first true loss from Aspinall, the fans think otherwise. One follower said, “I hope Dana makes the Jon Jones fight so everyone can see and rest.” In contrast, another said, “Jon Jones is taking notes.”
It is evident from the comments that the UFC viewers think that Monye is a better wrestler than Aspinall, and Jon Jones has a better skill set than the interim heavyweight champion. Dana White had claimed recently, “Jon Jones is no dummy. Jon Jones has a very high fight IQ. He knows what Aspinall’s got and what he’s about.” He also pointed out that if Miocic wins, he might retire, but Jones would not. ‘Bones ‘ has a competitive spirit and would just stay back to prove himself to the people who think Aspinall might defeat him.
Dana White had confidently stuck to his point that Jones was the best P4P fighter. It looks like the fans would agree too. One social media user commented, “Light works for bones jones.” Another follower pointed out that ‘Bones’ wrestled with Olympic-level fighters. They said, “Jones rolled with Gordan Ryan and Olympic Wrestlers…”
