While he was having one of the best moments of his UFC career, Tom Aspinall suffered an injury to his right knee during his fight with Curtis Blaydes in the main event of ‘UFC London: Aspinall vs. Blaydes’ back in 2022. It took place in round 1 and so, the fighter didn’t get to put on the show he wanted to. Such was the condition of his fracture that the Briton had to spend a long time away from action and go through surgery to fix his leg. However, with the help of Doctor Williams, the Briton bounced back a year later and went on to defeat Marcin Tybura and Sergei Pavlovich in 2023. Then, he faced Curtis Blaydes once again and won via KO.

In a recent Instagram video released by the UFC, viewers saw how difficult of a time it was for Aspinall while dealing with his injury. But he stayed ahead of his recovery schedule. “After surgery with @SmithNephew_SportsMedicine cutting-edge orthopedic tech, UFC fighter Tom Aspinall is back and stronger than ever,” UFC’s post read. But if fans are to be believed, chances are Aspinall would be back on the stretcher again. Why?

Ever since going on a three-fight win streak, Aspinall has been demanding a title unification bout between him and Jon Jones. Accusing the current UFC heavyweight champion of ducking a fight against him, the Brit believes that he would be able to legitimately defeat ‘Bones’ and become the new UFC heavyweight champion. It is a fight that even fans have been demanding for a long time, and even Jon Jones hinted the same after his win against Stipe Miocic that his next fight would be the one fans have been demanding for a long time. So, it looks like Aspinall would be getting what he wanted so badly.

However, one must not forget that ‘Bones’ is one of the fiercest fighters in the UFC. So while Tom Aspinall believes that he has what it takes to fight the heavyweight champion, many Jon Jones fans believe otherwise.

In fact, they were quick to storm the comments of the aforementioned UFC post to remind Aspinall of the fate that awaits him if he shares the Octagon with the heavyweight champion.

Jon Jones’ fans send warnings to Tom Aspinall!

As soon as the UFC post hit the internet, fans were quick to warn Tom Aspinall about the phenom that is Jon Jones. His last fight against one of the heavyweight GOATs Stipe Miocic was nothing short of a one-sided affair. Despite trying his best, ‘Stone Cold’ was unable to get the better of Jones, and all it took was one spinning back-kick by ‘Bones’ to send Miocic into retirement.

So, when fans saw that Aspinall already had major issues with his knees, they warned that the interim champion shouldn’t go against Jon Jones anytime soon. Jones is known for his oblique kicks, a devastating move that can destroy your knee and end the fight for good. Thus, fans wrote:

  • “Jones going to obliterate that knee lol.”
  • “Jones has some good kicks for that knee.”

This also reminds us of UFC 135 – Jones vs. Rampage (2011), where ‘Bones’ slowed down ‘Rampage’ with his oblique kicks. In fact, in 2013, Quinton Jackson came forward to opine that the kick should be banned. “It should be called the illegal kick. It should be banned and it shows a lot about the fighter’s character that he would throw it. How would he like it if somebody threw it at him and stopped him working for a year?” he questioned.

  • “Jones is going to redamage that knee; it’s honestly not a good thing fighting Jones when you have existing or preexisting knee issues.”

But while many fans were speaking against Aspinall, many had differing opinions too about the fighters. Here’s the thing: Aspinall has been the interim champion since November 2023 and the title unification bout can’t wait for too long.

  • “Post knee injury and he’s still too fast for 99.69% of the heavyweight division. ☕️”
  • “The baddest man on the planet itw rn🔥jon ducking and running from him cause he knows aspinal will ko him so bad lol.”

Regardless, both the fighters have a great MMA record (Aspinall: 15-3, Jones: 28-1) and it would be interesting to see how the British fighter’s KO power and Jones’s wrestling skills would collide in the octagon. What do you think?
