UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones appears to be in a mood to tease the former dual-weight champion and his staunch rival, Daniel Cormier. How? By hanging a picture of the infamous crying ‘DC’ in his new mansion. Both champions have fought each other twice, with Jones emerging victorious on every occasion. Over the years, their rivalry seemed to have watered down, but it appears that the heavyweight champion is looking to reignite the feud once again. And what did he pick for that? Something that is tragically iconic.
You might not have forgotten their fight in UFC 214 in 2017. It was Cormier’s chance to avenge his loss to Jones in the UFC 182 in 2015. Cormier was going well initially. He took more punches but was also landing brutal ones on Jones’ head while forcing him into uncomfortable situations. He was smiling, talking trash, and looked very composed. But with less than two and a half minutes left in the round, Cormier was knocked out by a head kick and subsequent punches by Jones. The saddest part is that this fight was ruled No contest after Jones tested positive for PED. But that did not take away the humiliation of Cormier.
As Jones celebrated and Cormier attempted to walk out of the octagon, Joe Rogan interviewed him for a few minutes. Cormier broke down in tears as he said, “I don’t know, man. I thought the fight was going well … I don’t even know what happened. They say I got kicked in the head … I’m so disappointed.” White pressed him on his rivalry with Jones and Cormier disagreed: “If he wins both fights, there is no rivalry.” Wrong he was, since Jones chose to showcase this very weak moment of Cormier in his latest post.

‘Bones’ took to his Instagram to share a story featuring his friend hanging a canvas of a crying ‘DC’ in his home, and we could hear Jones’s voice in the background saying, “That is hilarious. All fun and games, guys. That’s not really going up there, but that would be funny.”
In addition to that, Jon Jones called the picture, “Le Cry De La Pus.” ‘Bones’ comments are quite strange, especially considering he was recently very cordial to Daniel Cormier. While having a conversation during UFC 309 media day, Jones was asked about the most skilled opponent he has ever faced, and guess whose name the heavyweight champion took? Daniel Cormier!
“I think actually Daniel Cormier is probably the most skilled. His Olympic-level wrestling, his dirty boxing, and his boxing. But, Stipe’s beat Daniel Cormier. Stipe, he deserves to be here, man. He can wrestle. He always comes lean and in shape. He has great cardio, and he has that right hand.
“Whether it’s the straight right, overhand right, or right uppercut, that’s his real weapon. That’s his ticket. We’re very aware of that, and we’re very prepared for that,” said Jones. In fact, even after that brutal UFC 214 loss, Jones only had Praise and support to offer for Cormier. Here is what he had said.

“D.C. has no reason to be ashamed. He has been a model champion, a model husband, a model father, teammate, leader, and I aspire to be more like that man,” Jones had said back then. Getting such praise out of ‘Bones’ is not a small feat as the heavyweight champion has squared off against a generation of light-heavyweight greats in his prime. But is Jones’ IG story a response to a recent statement from DC?
At the UFC 310 Weigh-In show, Cormier was talking about how difficult it was for athletes of color to ‘get over.’ He gave Aljamain Sterling and Belal Muhammad (who was at the show) as an example. When his co-host brought up Jon Jones, Cormier said Jones was “Jon Jones is typical. Jon Jones is what’s expected.” Cormier may have even meant that as a compliment but did this comment rub the champ the wrong way?
Whatever it was, Jon Jones’ recent antics may have not sat well with the MMA community, as fans took the time to criticize the heavyweight champion for mocking Daniel Cormier. Let’s have a look at what the fans have to say.

Starting off, a social media user advised Daniel Cormier to put up a canvas of Jon Jones, where he was crying after being removed from the UFC 200 PPV after USADA announced that Jones’s test samples came positive. ‘Bones’ briefed the media after the UFC removed him from the card, and he was devastated and in tears at the presser. A fan called out Cormier to hang the UFC 200 picture at his house, “Now dc should put a picture of Jon crying after getting caught for ped”
Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier was canceled multiple times and their UFC 214 clash was the end of Daniel Cormier’s light-heavyweight days. He transitioned to the heavyweight division after Jon Jones’s victory, which the commission changed to no-contest as ‘Bones’ failed the drug tests. Looking at this a fan wrote, “The worst thing he ever did was ruin DCs career by cheating and getting suspended”
Furthermore, a fan asserted that at least Jones was showing his true colors instead of forcing cordiality.“At least he’s not acting anymore. he’s showing his true form.” Another fan added that the photo was of the same fight which was overturned to no-contest, “Same fight that ended in a no contest btw.”

A fan took it a bit too seriously and he claimed that Jones will never compare to Cormier, “Jon wishes he was a quarter of a man DC was.” Last but not least, a fan asked about the nice Jon Jones, “What happened to the new nice Jon”
Daniel Cormier has time and time again emphasized that he and Jones can never be friends, they might be acquaintances but never good friends and now we know the reason why. These veiled digs and subtle jabs between the pair might go on for the rest of their days. Regardless, what are your thoughts on the picture? State your thoughts in the comments below.
