Light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira won’t be in action for a while, but it seems like he’s going to put his belt up for grabs next against Magomed Ankalaev. However, his mentor and former UFC champ Glover Teixeira opened up on what he believes the most significant fight for ‘Poatan’ could be. If you’ve guessed it, yes, it’s none other than the supposed ‘greatest of all time’, Jon Jones.
There’s been enough buzz around the fact that there’s a potential Jon Jones vs. Alex Pereira fight on the horizon in the MMA community. Although some are talking about the anticipated heavyweight clash between ‘Bones’ against Francis Ngannou, that doesn’t seem practical given the fact that Dana White doesn’t want to cross-promote. That’s where Pereira comes in, and his coach-cum-mentor wants him to take that opportunity when it presents itself because this fight has the ability to sell out any arena.
“The biggest fight right now will be Jon Jones… gonna sell the most, you know. There’s no big fight right now than those two meeting up and see who’s the best,” Glover Teixeira stated on the ‘Overdogs Podcast’.

Jon Jones, too, claims to be interested in fighting Alex Pereira, but before he can do that, he’s got to go through the former 2-time heavyweight champion, Stipe Miocic. The heavyweight duo is set to battle it out in the upcoming UFC 309 pay-per-view, taking place at the prestigious Madison Square Garden arena. Many deem this to be a legacy fight, but Glover Teixeira believes that Alex Pereira has the capability to knock either of the two legends out in a fight.

Alex Pereira can turn Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic’s lights out, his mentor claims
Glover Teixeira couldn’t be happier with how his protégé’s UFC run has turned out so far. Alex Pereira has more than proved how deadly his fists can be given that most of the Brazilian’s wins came via knockouts. So can Jon Jones or Stipe Miocic stop him since he’s looking to move up in weight in the future? Well, Teixeira claims that he does fancy ‘Poatan’s chances of rocking both the aforementioned heavyweight legends because he has “unbelievable” power.
“[Pereira’s] knockout power is unbelievable. He’s doing great on the ground, and he’s a natural knockout artist. If he goes up, these guys won’t beat him, man. They would have the same chance the other ones have [at light heavyweight]… Jon Jones or Stipe [Miocic]? Ok, I believe ‘Poatan’ catches them,” Alex Pereira’s mentor told ‘MMA Fighting’ days before his last fight against Khalil Rountree Jr. upon whom he put on an absolute beating at UFC 307.

Do you know who else certified Pereira’s power? Khamzat Chimaev! The UFC 308 co-main event winner was uncharacteristically humble throughout fight week. Sure, he has fired a few shots ‘Poatan’s way in the past, and Pereira has responded in kind. But after UFC 307, Chimaev could not help but tip the hat to the light heavyweight champion. ‘Borz’ even admitted that Pereira could knock him out if they fought. So, it’s safe to say that Pereira has the Chechen’s respect.
The future looks bright for Alex Pereira, who has become an in-demand fighter among fans and unquestionably one of the biggest stars currently on the UFC roster.
