Jon Jones Tells Alexander Volkanovski He’s Getting “Jason Statham” Vibes Before His “Dance” With Ciryl Gane

When Jon Jones gets back into the cage this weekend, MMA fans across the world will be glued to their screens. Jones is coming out of a long break. While there are speculations that he might struggle with ring rust, Jones looks determined. Jon Jones looks like a man on a mission. He recently took the opportunity to tell his fans what exactly he is aiming at. Jones was talking to Australian duo Robert Whittaker and Alexander Volkanovski in an interaction for FOX sports Australia.

While Jon Jones explained how he wanted to be the best fighter of all time, he looked completely impressed by Alexander Volkanovski.

Jon Jones didn’t mince his words in appreciating Alexander Volkanovski. While he wholeheartedly appreciated his performance against Islam Makhachev, he also said that ‘Volk’ gave out Hollywood star Jason Statham vibes. This obviously cracked up Volkanovski, who took the compliment with grace.

Jon Jones considers Volkanovski the best pound-for-pound fighter

Jones was asked by Robert Whittaker and Alexander Volkanovski about his time away from fighting. He was asked about who he thought was currently the best fighter around. Replying to the questions, Jones recounted how eating to bulk up used to be a difficult thing for him. He also mentioned that the distance from fighting has made him grow closer to his family and community.

Jon Jones said he appreciated Alexander Volkanovski for his composure in the fight against a bigger Islam Makhachev. He said that Alexander Volkanovski’s love for Australia and how he is received by fans were things that he really appreciated.

Volk asked Jones a question about what he made of his next opponent, Ciryl Gane, and in response, Jon Jones started off saying, “I am getting Jason Statham vibes. I have a question for you. Can you dance? Or is it mostly like the shadow box, I was wondering. I feel like Cyril Gane is a really good fighter. He’s special compared to most heavyweights, but I don’t feel like that I fight like the other heavyweights at all and I could talk about it as much as I like, I will show you guys on Saturday.”

Responding to a question from Robert Whittaker, Jon Jones mentioned that Alexander Volkanovski and Islam Makhachev were the top fighters out there currently. He was very honest in accepting that he could not be counted in that list right now as he had been absent from the game for a considerable period and thus had no claims on those spots.

Jon ‘Bones’ Jones, however, clarified that he was targeting to be the best MMA fighter of all time and was working only towards that achievement. He was full of respect for his next opponent, Ciryl Gane, but also looked assured in his abilities.
