With just a few days to go for UFC 309, the doubts are starting to creep in about Jon Jones and what lies ahead for the undisputed champion in the aftermath of his fight against Stipe Miocic. It’s a big fight feeling on November 16th, and the UFC’s production team has even posted teaser videos regarding the impending return of the supposed greatest of all time. But is it all going to be over for Jones on Saturday night? Well, it seems like it will.
Stipe Miocic has a pretty proven track record in the heavyweight division, being a former 2-time champion and making the most title defenses in the division’s history. Jon Jones, on the other hand, has only had one heavyweight fight, which he dominated like he usually does. But that doesn’t seem to be an issue with ‘Bones’ because famous trainer & nutritionist George Lockhart, who’s working with Jones for his UFC 309 bout, believes that the undisputed could give his everything to register an early finish, especially because it is his last “legacy fight.”
“Honestly, I do think that Jon is gonna take it early. I really do, and that has nothing to do with like, ‘Oh, I don’t think Stipe is that good,'” George Lockhart stated on ‘The Scrap’. “Some people, it’s like they train to learn to the level of what you’re fighting at, and if you’re fighting for your final legacy fight, you know, Jones has this ability to rise to the occasion.”

Why is this a cloud on UFC 309? Because it means that this Saturday might be the end of the road for Jones. He turned down the Tom Aspinall challenge in favor of the Alex Pereira challenge claiming the latter to be more of a legacy fight. Jones is not looking to clear out the division; he wants to go out on top on his terms. That is exactly what he said while pitching a BMF fight against Alex Pereira.
“I walked away from the light heavyweight championship. I’d love to walk away from this one as well on top, on [my] own terms, good head on your shoulders, making lots of money. I love the position that I’m in right now. Fighting Pereira for the ‘BMF’ belt, that would be cool. We both have two belts in two weight classes and the night we fought we’d both be fighting for our third belt, which would be the ‘BMF.’ How cool would that be?”
If this proposed plan does not come to fruition, we might not see Jones in the Octagon again, even if he does not announce his retirement at UFC 309 this weekend. That’s your cue to not miss a second of the heavyweight clash this weekend.
Meanwhile, UFC legend Chael Sonnen has already given his verdict on the retirement situation after UFC 309. Moreover, he didn’t just insinuate Jon Jones hanging up his gloves but also believes that it could be the end of the road for Stipe Miocic as well.

Chael Sonnen believes Stipe Miocic and Jon Jones could retire together
It has never happened in history that two rivals announced their retirements after fighting each other, but that could happen at UFC 309, according to Chael Sonnen. He stated that the very concept of retirement was merely an intriguing proposition aimed at captivating the audience’s attention for the heavyweight championship bout. Although Jones probably did not give retiring any serious thoughts before, the extreme reactions from fans across various social media platforms could have changed his outlook on potentially hanging up the gloves for good.

“There was for nothing more than marketing reasons, it was thrown out that both Jon and Stipe would retire after this fight and Jon grabbed it,” Chael Sonnen stated on his YouTube Channel. “After he said it [about the retirement], he got quite a reaction. So, he said it again, and he said it again… Now, all of a sudden, it’s something that Jon has said and is starting to believe for the better part of two months.”
Now, it seems like the interim champion, Tom Aspinall, may have to see his wish at a battle against Jon Jones disappear in the aftermath of UFC 309. After what Chael Sonnen has suggested, it doesn’t seem like he’ll get to fight Stipe Miocic either, which could have even a big deal given the ‘Stone Cold’s heavyweight accolades.
