If there is a debate about the GOAT in the UFC, one name will keep popping up. While the debate has some usual suspects, such as Demetrious Johnson and Georges St-Pierrefew can dispute the place of Jon Jones. ‘Bones’ has dominated his opponents in the Octagon like no one ever did. Further, his 11 title defenses, tied with ‘Mighty Mouse’, bear testimony to his dictating reign. But where does he stand in Johnson’s books?

The ONE flyweight champion recently weighed in on his opinion regarding the GOAT debate. He has been vocal about his support for the heavyweight champion to claim the title. Moreover, the former UFC champion believes Jones’ beating of Ciryl Gane has made him leapfrog the other candidates. “I think he is a GOAT,” he declared as he sat down with Kanpai Pandas. Following this, he had a bold claim in store, as he predicted the outcome of his bout against Stipe Miocic.

The 36-year-old in the conversation called his fellow compatriot “one of the greatest.” He continued, “The whole time he has been in, he is undefeated.” He then mentioned the fans have witnessed every MMA sphere mastered by Jones.

He has submitted; he has knocked people out. He has decision people,” Johnson mentioned. In addition, the Madisonville native touched upon Jones’ next fight. He sees a long and tough night in the office for Miocic and believes Jones will leave the steel cage with UFC gold.

He announced, “So when he goes and fights Stipe Miocic, I can’t wait to see that fight. I think Stipe is in for a long night and I think Jon Jones is gonna get done and Jones is gonna retire as a champion that he is.”

Lastly, he expressed excitement about what Jones would do after hanging up his MMA gloves. The flyweight fighter is himself considered the GOAT in his division, and many fighters have followed his example. It appears Jones also falls into the same category.

Jones wants to follow the standard set by Johnson

These heartfelt comments attracted the attention of the heavyweight lynchpin. Therefore, touched by such remarks, he replied, “I appreciate the support so much Demetrious, you’ve been a great example from me over the years. A high standard, let’s both keep winning. @ice_bagz @kanpai_pandas”.

Notably, Johnson recently defended his ONE title against Adriano Moraes in a trilogy fight. On the other hand, Jones will face Miocic at UFC 295 at Madison Square Garden in November this year. Additionally, he has the chance to improve his title defense record to 12 in his upcoming fight. Surely, a successful title defense against Miocic will cement his case as the GOAT.
