Is Jon Jones justified in holding a grudge against Stipe Miocic, or is it just fight hype?

The world awaits the battle between Stipe Miocic and Jon Jones at UFC 309. Until a few days ago, the two fighters had maintained a respectful attitude in the buildup to their clash. However, things changed earlier this month. In a UFC 309 promo, Miocic poked fun at Jones, encouraging him to “bring it on, b***h.” That remark touched a chord with Jones, who has subsequently taken a jibe at ‘Stone Cold’ on social media.

Miocic, on the other hand, seems unfazed by the back-and-forth, laughing off the incident during a recent media day while offering an almost awkward apology for ruffling Jones’ feathers. However, it seems like the apology did little to soothe their relationship. Jon Bernard recently interviewed ‘Bones’ and asked about Stipe Miocic’s statements. The UFC heavyweight champion did not shy away from responding to Miocic’s remark. He revealed that he surely isn’t forgiving nor forgetting the words uttered by the former UFC heavyweight champion.’

He said, “No, I accept his apology. At the end of the day, I don’t think it was sincere at all. “He was like, ‘I’m sorry I hurt your feelings and whatnot’, and there was another time. A few months ago, he mentioned, ‘At least my kids will never look at me like an as—le.’ He was talking about me and my relationship with my children. I realized that everyone loves Stipe. He’s a nice guy. He’s a firefighter. Initially I didn’t to go there with him and have bad blood. But I don’t care about him at all at this point.”

‘Bones’ further added, “I have no reason to have any sort of mercy, or sympathy, or play it classy… It’s all out the window now… I fight out of love; I really love what I do. And I believe I get my energy and my power from a place of love. I will remember what he said when I’m punching him in the face though.” Jon Jones has been out of action since his submission victory against Ciryl Gane in March 2023. Following that victory, Jones was slated to meet Stipe Miocic in November, but an injury caused him to withdraw. With tensions running high now, fans have another reason to look forward to the fight at MSG on Saturday.

However, this interview wasn’t the only stop where Jon Jones let hate get the better of him. In another recent incident, the UFC heavyweight champion decided to walk out of an interview with TNT because of interim champion Tom Aspinall. But what exactly happened that led ‘Bones’ to walk out like that? Let’s find out!

Jon Jones refuses to participate in an interview with TNT due to Tom Aspinall

Is Jon Jones justified in holding a grudge against Stipe Miocic, or is it just fight hype?

Have an interesting take?

For a long time now, interim champion Tom Aspinall has been taking jibes at Jon Jones for running away from a fight against him. According to Aspinall, ‘Bones’ is afraid of a legitimate loss, while Jones believes that the British fighter is chasing fame and has yet to prove himself to go one-on-one against someone like him. The UFC Heavyweight is now all focused on his fight against Miocic at UFC 309, so he now wishes to stay away from all talk about Tom Aspinall.

So when TNT reporter Adam Catterall came in to interview ‘Bones’, the UFC heavyweight champion decided to walk out. He said, “I’m not doing this interview. It’s going to be an Aspinall fest.” It is worth noting that it was Catterall, a friend of Aspinall, who was viewed as the mastermind behind the Combat Lab series that pushed the Aspinall fight story. For the unaware, TNT started the Fight Lab series over the summer, with the first episode running on TNT Sports 1 and Discovery+.

Aspinall co-hosted the show with Adam Catterall, and it included guest appearances from a variety of figures to bring new audiences to the sport. So when Jon Jones was approached for an interview, he likely felt that the spotlight would be more on the dream fight against Aspinall than his upcoming one at UFC 309, which led him to decide against taking part in it. But what do you think? Is Jones’ reaction justified? Let us know in the comments.
