The wait for what Dana White dubbed “the biggest fight we’ve ever done” is becoming excruciating every passing day. The Tom Aspinall vs. Jon Jones heavyweight title unification bout is “done but its not done,” according to White, who added that it’s “just a matter of when now”. This indicates that while the negotiations with Jones have all but concluded and all that is left is for the contract to be signed. For the unversed, the interim heavyweight champion hasn’t fought since UFC 304 last year, where he avenged his loss to Curtis Blaydes with another explosive knockout.

On 29th April, the Englishman will surpass Renan Barao for holding an interim championship for the longest amount of time at 535 days. Just think about it. A prime spent in waiting on the sidelines, and no unification bout in sight! But in the meantime, he has not been kicking back and chilling, waiting for Jones to finally sign the contract. No, the Englishman has been hard at work, toiling away in the gym and getting better every day for what will undoubtedly be the biggest fight of his career. But that is what every fighter says when they are on a long break. Luckily for us, Aspinall showed us the receipts.

The interim champ took to his Instagram Story and posted a copy of a recent body analysis, which showed that he was in exceptional physical shape that would be needed to compete with the GOAT contender. Overall, his InBody Score was 110 out of 100, but the Englishman is too humble to brag about that. He instead focused on other, more interesting metrics like his weight and body fat percentage.

“I may not have been active in the Octagon the last 8 months (nothing to do with me), but I’ve certainly been active inside and outside the gym! Huge improvements in athletic ability. 115kg/254 lbs body weight. 12% body fat. 58.2kg/128lbs skeletal muscle mass. Here’s one for any fitness nerds 🤓 out there 👌,” he wrote in the accompanying captions.

Clearly, Aspinall wants to be in GOAT level shape to face the GOAT contender. And with Dana White having all but confirmed that the fight will happen, the only question that seems to be left is. When will we get to see it?

Why is Jon Jones likely to fight Tom Aspinall at UFC 322 this year?

Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall, if it is to be the biggest fight in the history of the sport, need a venue that matches the magnitude of the fight. This is why the duo will probably fight in the most prestigious sports venue in North America. The Mecca known as Madison Square Garden in New York City. The UFC, of course, holds one event in that venue every November. And this year, that card will be UFC 322, which is likely to be headlined by a Jones-Aspinall heavyweight unification bout.

But there is just one problem with this plan. According to Ariel Helwani, Jones wants six months to prepare for the interim champ. Many feel this ‘six month’ period starts after Jones signs the contract to fight Aspinall. And since it is already April, with November is less than five months away, doesn’t that mean a November date won’t be possible? Well, no. The six-month thing is just a report, and not been confirmed by Jones or the UFC.

What’s your perspective on:

With Aspinall in peak shape, is Jon Jones ready to defend his GOAT status in the Octagon?

Have an interesting take?

Not to mention, Dana White made those “it’s done but it’s not done” comments last month, and ‘Bones’ may have agreed to the fight already. The UFC, of course, usually keeps such things under wraps until they are ready to announce it at a time and place they think appropriate. So for all we know, Jones may already be in camp preparing for the Aspinall clash. What do you think about Tom Aspinall’s health update?
