Following his dominant win over former 2-time heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic, Jon Jones made it clear that he only intends to fight one specific champion next, Alex Pereira. The light heavyweight champion has been on ‘Bones’ radar for a while now and the 37-year old feels at this stage of his career, he should be awarded this fight. However, the interim heavyweight champion, Tom Aspinall, recently revealed something that Jon Jones might not like.
During his post-fight speech, Jon Jones claimed that he wanted to give the fans the fight that they wanted, and we all know that the fans want Tom Aspinall vs the supposed greatest of all time. The British star, during TNT Sport’s UFC 309 broadcast, revealed that he and Dana White had an eye-contact exchange when Jon Jones was talking about his opponent during his UFC 309 post-fight speech. According to Aspinall, Dana White gave him a “few nods and winks,” indicating that his wish to fight Jones could very well come true.
“I’ll tell you a bit of an exclusive news right here on TNT Sports. I was getting a few nods and winks of the boss’s when Jon Jones was talking about the next fight,” Tom Aspinall claimed. “That means a lot to me, and not only that, I spoke to [the] UFC brass this week. Both guys [the matchmakers] were talking about – ‘this is going to be the biggest heavyweight fight in UFC history – absolutely no doubt about it’. Potentially, one of the biggest fights in UFC history.”

Dana White already confirmed at the pre-fight presser that the winner of the UFC 309 title bout would ‘absolute fight Tom Aspinall next’. On the other hand, Jon Jones teased walking away from the sport if he doesn’t face Pereira next, despite telling Rogan on the mic that he isn’t retiring. Jon Jones definitely wants Alex Pereira next, but what does the UFC head honcho think about this potential matchup?

Dana White not buying the idea of Jon Jones vs Alex Perera
As big as they come and as hard as they can hit, Jon Jones showed that it really doesn’t matter to him when he shut down Stipe Miocic in the third round. As Dana White claims, ‘Bones’ systematically took the former 2-time champion apart, cementing his status as the legit undisputed heavyweight champion. Meanwhile, Alex Pereira expressed an interest in moving up to the heavyweight division, and Dana White believes that it would be wrong to pair him up with Jones, who’s significantly bigger than ‘Poatan’.

“There’s no f—ing way I make the Pereira fight. Jon’s too big, a great wrestler. See how he took Stipe down in the first round? I like Alex Pereira. I like him personally. You know, it just doesn’t make sense to make that fight,”, Dana White told the media during the post-fight press conference. Well, that could be bad news for some, but it’s exceptionally good news for Tom Aspinall.

However, Dana White revealed one circumstance where he would allow that fight to happen, and that is if both Jones and Pereira bother him enough perhaps simultaneosly. For now, Tom Aspinall and Jon Jones now have one heavyweight title defense each, and it’s logical for them to duke it out next.
