If there are two things we know about Jon J0nes, it is that he is perhaps the greatest mixed martial artist ever and that he is never too far away from trouble. The two-division UFC champ’s excellence and dominance in the octagon are rivaled only by his penchant for getting into legal trouble repeatedly. The latest chapter of the saga came as Jones has been charged with two counts of misdemeanor for allegedly threatening to kill drug testing officials. But Daniel Cormier, who has been on the receiving end of death threats from Jones, has come forward full-throated defense of his old rival.
The whole nightmarish affair happened nearly four months ago, in the wee hours of March 30. Apparently, Jones was hanging out in his New Mexico home, enjoying drinks with a friend in the early hours of the morning, before the break of daylight. At this point, there was a knock on the door and Jones opened the door to find two drug testing officials from the UFC’s in-house agency.
As per protocol, Jones was asked for a urine sample from the officials. However, ‘Bones’ allegedly couldn’t and refused their request. To this, the officials allegedly warned that he would have to give them a blood sample instead. For some reason, this ticked Jones off, and according to the testimony of the drug testers, allegedly indirectly threatened to kill them. But, Jones’ old rival Daniel Cormier, who self-admittedly still doesn’t like Jones, thinks that these charges are “BS”, as he explained in a video on his official YouTube channel.

“My boy Jon Jones, guys, he got served two misdemeanors for the incident with the drug testing lady. if I’m being completely honest though the whole time I kind of thought that deal was BS… If a man is at his house and he’s having some drinks in the confines of his own home, so what? It’s his right to do that,” the UFC commentator said.
The main reason for him jumping to Jones’ defense was that the circumstances of the incident mitigated and explained why Jones reacted the way that he did. ‘DC’ explained that the drug testers chose possibly the worst possible time to call on ‘Bones’. Drunk and seemingly up all night partying at home, as is his right, ‘DC’ believed that it was anything but unexpected that the champ reacted with such alleged bellicosity and hostility.
“And if the drug testers come and he might be a little bit tipsy, or messed up, maybe the interactions aren’t as fun or as easy as they may have been on other occasions. So I kind of always thought it was BS, I don’t think much is gonna come of it,” Cormier added.
The former UFC champ felt that Jones was getting undeserved flak for the incident, which he reiterated wasn’t “that big a deal.” Cormier also explained that while he “doesn’t like” Jones, he was “standing up for that guy” simply because he felt that it was the “right” thing to do. But these legal charges are not the only hurdle between Jones and his comeback.

‘Bones’ cuts ‘half his finger’ off making Miocic fight more doubtful
After a decade of dominance at light heavyweight, Jon Jones moved up to heavyweight last year. Proving his GOAT credentials yet again, the New Mexico resident beat Cirly Gane without breaking a sweat in the second round at their UFC 285 270-pound title clash last year. However, nearly eight months after his title win, tragedy struck.
Preparing for a legacy-defining fight against Stipe Miocic at UFC 295 last November, he tore his pectoral muscle weeks from the bout and was ruled out for at least eight months. And just as it seemed that he was finally firing on all cylinders and slated to make his comeback this year, even more alarming news has emerged.

Last week, Jon Jones told fans in an alarming now-deleted tweet: “Getting half my finger cut off at the Las Vegas airport.” If his finger is indeed as mutilated as he has claimed, it would mean that Jones will probably be out of action for 2024, too. However, following another hiatus, there may not be any takers for him and the promotion might also be forced to strip the champion of his heavyweight title.
