At UFC 285, former Heavyweight interim champion Ciryl Gane entered the ring with UFC legend and former Light Heavyweight fighter and champ, Jon Jones. This fight marked the return of Jones to the UFC after spending years away from the sport. He was originally returning to fight Francis Ngannou, who went to the PFL. The fight between Jones and Gane was for the vacant Heavyweight title.

Jones made a statement upon his return and proved to all his doubters and the naysayers that he still had it. He made quick work of Gane within the first round itself and walked away with the Heavyweight championship. Gane was humiliated and now, he seems to be confident that he wants revenge for his devastating loss at the hands of Jones, who is currently preparing to fight Stipe Miocic to defend his title.

Gane, after his defeat at the hands of Jones, was really heartbroken – and understandably so. In a post-fight interview, Gane said that his loss to Jones was his first real loss in the UFC. He said that he wasn’t ready to handle Jones and that he had to work on his game a lot more in order to win a fight against Jones. Jones, who was an underdog for the first time in his career, went in and made quick work of Gane.

It seems that Gane is now ready to exact his revenge against Jones. He showed real improvement in his last fight against Sergey Spivak, which was the main event for UFC Paris, which was held on 2 September. Now, in a recent interview with The MMA Hour’s Ariel Helwani, Gane spoke up on chasing after the title again. Helwani said that both Jones and Miocic had declared plans to retire after their fight at UFC 295 and asked Gane if Jones retiring, made things easier for him.

No no no, not at all. No. It’s not better. If I got a chance to have a revenge to prove I can be better than the last time, that’s good also. You see?“, replied Gane, strongly disagreeing with what Helwani assumed must be going on in his mind.

He clarified his state of mind by adding, “Stipe – that’s good also! Is to test myself. That’s good! I want to test myself. I don’t want the way in an easy way. That – that’s not my… my mind.“.

He then proceeded to talk about the Heavyweight belt and fighting for it next. “Yes, I want to go to the belt. I see if can do it with – with a big guy. That’s better.“, he said before doubling down on how it’s better for him to fight a strong competitor for the title. “That’s much better.“, he emphasized.

Stipe Miocic is a legendary heavyweight fighter and even Jon Jones holds him in high regard. After picking up a fairly easy win over Gane, Jones set his sights on Miocic and called him out. According to Jones, there is no better way to solidify the legacy that he has built in the UFC than to defeat the strongest and most revered Heavyweight fighter of all time.

Ciryl Gane, who suffered a harrowing defeat at the hands of Jones, seems to think that Jones will take the win against Miocic at UFC 295. Now that both Jones and Miocic have announced their plans to retire from the sport, this might be Gane’s last chance to exact revenge and secure a win over Jones and become the Heavyweight champion. However, if Miocic wins, Gane will have to decide if he wants to go for the title or revenge.
