To put it simply, Jon Jones is certainly not your average athlete. The man, after all, is one of the most complete fighters to ever compete in the sport of MMA. Muay Thai, jiu-jitsu, wrestling, and striking – Jones’ fighting style has it all. The supposed greatest of all time is also an expert in managing distance and range while fighting an opponent. This skill allows him to get extremely creative with his offensive moves.

Jon Jones also possesses a second-to-none ground game, that includes the reigning and defending UFC champion’s ability to gain impressive positional control. This automatically enables him to find openings to land some significant blows on his opponent, which is something that his upcoming opponent, Stipe Miocic, must be aware of.

Another one of Jon Jones’ impressive skills is how he handles the clinch. In such situations, ‘Bones’ tends to control his opponents’ arms, disabling them from launching any kind of attack, which leads him to find an opening and land knee strikes and/or elbow strikes.

Does Jon Jones do Wing Chun?

Jon Jones was an amateur wrestler during his younger years, following which he decided to take on mixed martial arts. However, we don’t have any sure-shot information that the UFC heavyweight champion trained in Wing Chun. But, as we’ve mentioned already, Jones has shown that he has drawn a lot of inspiration from that concept-based martial arts, which he showcases when he delivers his signature oblique kick.

But what is the reason behind using Wing Chun techniques? Well, since MMA is a close-quarter combat sport, Wing Chun comes in pretty handy in helping fighters develop their close-quarter combat skills. Like Jon Jones, even Tony Ferguson and Anderson Silva have shown their use of Wing Chun techniques inside the Octagon.

Wing Chun doesn’t have a good reputation in MMA, despite Jon Jones claiming in the past that it’s been a very effective tool for him. Most fighters claim that these techniques are ‘too dirty’ for MMA, and have spoken against it. However, it remains legal for in-flight use, and maybe we can see Jones make use of this technique in his legacy fight against Stipe Miocic.

Now, let’s move over to learn a few more things about Jon Jones’ fighting skills, especially his grappling, where he excels more than most fighters in UFC history.

Which BJJ belt does Jon Jones have?

Jon Jones has 17 finishes to his name in his entire MMA career, but most of them, 10, are knockouts. The rest 7 of his finishes have come by submission, which was the way he finished Ciryl Gane to win the heavyweight title at UFC 285. Although ‘Bones’ has knocked out opponents more than submitted them, he still holds a respectable rank in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

The supposed greatest of all time does have a black belt, but not in BJJ. He earned a black belt in Gaidojutsu, which is a martial art created by his coach Greg Jackson, more than a decade before his advent in MMA. Meanwhile, in BJJ, Jones has only been able to earn the purple belt so far. He earned that belt while training under Roberto Alencar.

Jon Jones is locked and loaded for Stipe Miocic this weekend at UFC 309 because he’s been calling for this fight for a long time. He wanted this fight to happen in Madison Square Garden, and he got his wish. But the question that stands now is – will ‘Bones’ get the better of the former 2-time heavyweight champion to establish his dominance in the division or will he get a dose of what a real heavyweight from Miocic, who’s knocked out some of the biggest heavy hitters the promotion has ever seen? Well, we’ll have to wait to find out.
