Aren’t Octagon bravado and post-fight callouts our favorite? It’s basically the UFC’s version of writing a strongly worded email. Fighters grab the mic, throw out a name, and hope Dana White is paying attention. It’s equal parts strategy and spectacle, but not every callout gets answered. And nobody knows that better than Jan Blachowicz. Remember when Blachowicz stood in the octagon, fresh off a big win, and called out Jon Jones? “We gonna do this? We do this thing?”
The crowd was hyped, the moment felt real. But the then Light heavyweight kingpin? He ghosted him harder than a bad Tinder date. And now, years later, Blachowicz is peeling back the curtain on what really happened. And let’s just say he’s not buying the whole ‘I just wanted to be a heavyweight’ narrative. “Yeah, I was very disappointed when he go to heavyweight because he promised me the fight twice,” the Polish star recently spilled to Full Send MMA. “One, I meet him in the shopping center, like two weeks before my fight. And he said, ‘If you gonna win, you are next.’ After when I beat Cory, I talk with him, and he said, ‘You are next,’ and then he go to heavyweight. He escape, you know. He run away from me.”

Imagine that. You get a verbal handshake in a shopping center, deliver on your end, and then the guy just up and leaves the division? Instead of throwing down with Jan, Jones vacated his belt and took a three-year detour to bulk up for heavyweight. It worked. He returned, steamrolled Ciryl Gane in what felt like 30 seconds, and secured the belt.
But for Jan Blachowicz, the itch to settle the score remains. And he’s willing to get creative about it. “Maybe not inside the octagon, but I guess I go to his gym and ask him for a sparring session. I need to have a one-and-all fight against him.” Would ‘Bones’ actually go for that? Yeah, probably not. But in this sport, crazier things have happened. Just look at Blachowicz, he’s back, and he’s got unfinished business to handle.

Is Jan Blachowicz returning to the Octagon with a bigger plan?
After two years on the sidelines recovering from double shoulder surgery, Blachowicz is finally making his return at UFC Fight Night 254 against Carlos Ulberg. And let’s just say, he’s not just here for a warm-up fight. He’s got bigger plans brewing.
“I feel pressure, but I know how to change this pressure into good energy, and I missed it,” he admitted. And the light heavyweight landscape he’s returning to? It’s been flipped upside down. Magomed Ankalaev is the new king after taking out Alex Pereira, and everyone and their mother is already talking about a potential rematch. But Jan? He’s looking to shake things up. “For me, it’s good because I have unfinished business with Ankalaev,” he said, referencing their split-draw in 2022. “But of course, I have a job to do this Saturday. I believe that I’ll be a winner, so maybe after that, we finish what we started with Ankalaev.”
Blachowicz, who has faced both Pereira and the Dagestani, admits watching them fight for his old belt was tough. “At first, I was a little bit jealous,” he confessed. “But I say, ‘Okay, I cannot waste my energy over something like this. I need to focus.’” And focus, he has. The first order of business? Halting the rise of Carlos Ulberg. “He’s got a big win streak,” Jan acknowledged. “So I just think about how to stop him. It’s time to stop him.”

Have an interesting take?
‘Black Jag’, the #6 ranked light heavyweight, has been on a tear, but Blachowicz plans to be the roadblock. “I’ll use my skills and experience to stop him, and I see this fight ending in a KO in the third round.”
With the division in chaos and Jon Jones gearing up for Tom Aspinall, Blachowicz knows now is the time to make his presence felt. If all goes according to plan on Saturday, don’t be surprised if he seizes the mic and issues another bold challenge. What do you think?
