Tom Aspinall has never been one to shy away from bold ambitions. Fresh off a series of electrifying performances, the Englishman has set his sights on the most coveted prize in mixed martial arts: a showdown with the legendary Jon Jones. For years, the enigmatic Jones has been the measuring stick in the UFC, but Aspinall believes the time is ripe to shake up the division.
However, the champion has shown little to no interest in fighting the interim champion as of yet. But why exactly is Jon Jones not taking up the fight? Aspinall’s close friend and GLORY heavyweight champion Rico Verhoeven seems to know why.

The UFC has always been a breeding ground for fierce rivalries, and the brewing tension between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall is quickly becoming one of the most compelling narratives in the MMA world. The Englishman’s calm demeanor outside the cage contrasts with his ferocity inside it, where he’s finished nearly all his fights spectacularly.
Rico Verhoeven rates the Aspinall very highly and feels he can cause a problem for ‘Bones’. Glory Kickboxing heavyweight king has engaged in some sparring sessions with Aspinall and has seen him from close quarters. We all are aware that the 30-year-old Brit is electrifying inside the Octagon and also has the power. But he also has some more dimensions in his game which was pointed out by his friend during a recent interview.
While speaking to MMA Junkie, Verhoeven made it clear that he does want to see the fight. However, he did warn Jones about the challenges he will be facing inside the Octagon. He said, “He has to take that fight. I know I understand his position and understand why he’s not like really eager to take that fight. Because Tom is a different type of animal. Believe me, he’s a different type of monster. He’s fast he’s agile he can grapple he can wrestle he’s good on the ground, he can box. He can kickbox so I don’t think Jon wants a piece of Tom Aspinall.”

As of now, the fans are only waiting to see who Jon Jones fights next in his career. After his victory at UFC 309, ‘Bones’ showed his interest in taking on Alex Pereira. The 37-year-old feels the Brazilian has achieved far more in his career and is a far better option than Aspinall. However, it’s not only Jones who feels this way but a former rival’s coach also echoed the same sentiments as well.

On the 28th of November, he shared his opinion and quoted, “Why do you want Jon Jones to look up and try to fight Tom Aspinall when Tom Aspinall is one – dangerous, two – not a valuable factor for legacy? On the other hand, you have Pereira. Done everything. Glory champion, and double champion in the UFC. Why don’t you go there and fight him? And even on the money standpoint, a better seller on pay-per-view.”
As the heavyweight landscape evolves, the possibility of these two juggernauts clashing has fans on edge. If the rivalry leads to the Octagon, it could define a new era in MMA history.
