Jon Jones is often considered the greatest of all time in the world of mixed martial arts. With just one defeat in his professional MMA career, the heavyweight champion has inspired many aspirants to take up martial arts. However, even one of the best fighters in the UFC sometimes gets humbled by the legendary practitioner of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Gordon Ryan.
As ‘The King’ got ready to take on Yuri Simoes at the 2024 ADCC super fight, the entire world of combat sports had the excitement peaked. Needless to say, Jones was also one of many, as he took his time out to watch Ryan vs. Simoes live at the T-Mobile Arena. That was where the UFC champ revealed his feelings about Ryan in an on-spot interview, which was soon released on Instagram. However, there was a stealthy attack waiting for ‘Bones’ and ‘The Iron Dragon’ in the comments section.

Flograppling spotted the UFC heavyweight champion at the 2024 ADCC and went forth to ask a couple of questions to the champ. Talking about RYan’s fight, Jones seemed pretty confident in the 6-time ADCC champion’s victory. He provided all of his support to ‘The King’. When he was asked to talk about the similarities between him and Ryan, Jones listed “drive, hunger, vision, confidence, work ethic.” However, he was sure to address that competing with someone like Ryan was troublesome indeed.
Right after that, the reporter asked Jones about his thoughts on grappling with the BJJ legend during their training sessions. Needless to say, Bones was pretty impressed with Ryan’s skills. However, rolling around with him was something he didn’t seem to look forward to again. He said, “Grappling with Gordon is not fun.I mean it’s incredibly educational. You know, he gives a ton of great knowledge. But man, he makes you work. You, no matter how big you are, how strong you are, how skilled you are, you eat a large piece of humble pie that day.”
As soon as the interview was released on Instagram, Dillon Danis took to the comments section and dragged Jones and Ryan into a ste**id controversy. The Bellator contender wrote, “He came to give Gordon his daily shot,” followed by a syringe emoji. But Ryan was the one who swooped down to defend the UFC HW champ. In a reply to Danis, Ryan wrote, “@dillondanis what is your adcc record ? Asking for fans.”

Nevertheless, Gordon Ryan’s skills in the world of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu have greatly impressed the fans and professionals alike. Even the famed UFC color commentator, Joe Rogan, seemed to believe that Jones could never survive a bout against Ryan.
Joe Rogan weighs in on ‘The King’s grappling prowess
On the 22nd of June, 2024, Rogan hosted an episode of JRE Fight Companion. Therein, Rogan and his guests talked about a hypothetical situation where Jones took on a grappling bout against Ryan. The former UFC contender and one of Rogan’s guests, Brendan Schaub, immediately jumped to the conclusion that Ryan would rise victorious against Jones in the bout.

The 56-year-old JRE host was also of a similar opinion. He commended the ‘Iron Dragon’s technique, fluidity, and control during the training routines. Thereafter, Rogan said, “Yeah, if there was money on the line saying, ‘Gordon, we’ll give you $100,000 if you can tap Jon out in 30 seconds… Gordon would grab a hold of his leg, he would get his leg so quick.”
With the world waiting to see the outcome of the 2024 ADCC super fight between Ryan and Simoes, Rogan and Jones seem to have complete faith in the 29-year-old BJJ legend. But what do you think of rolling out with Ryan? Let us know what you think in the comments down below.
