Ahead of his first title defense, Jon Jones has credited his brothers for his MMA journey.
While having a conversation with ‘Ketone-IQ,’ Jon Jones emphasized that his brother and his jiu-jitsu teacher were the reasons he began his career in professional fighting. “I grew up in a really athletic family. Both of my brothers—everyone knew they were going to be in the NFL by the time they were in college, ” said Jon Jones.
He further added, “I pretty much just wanted to keep up with the Joneses. So, I literally joined the jiu-jitsu school, and my jiu-jitsu teacher believed I had some great potential to be a really good martial artist. I’m glad I listened to him because, fast forward, I had a really great career.” Jon Jones surely shares a very close relationship with his brothers. In one of his confessions, Jones emphasized that he would wrestle his brother daily, “My brother is one of the best heavyweights in New York state wrestling history and I would wrestle him every day in high school and I would get my a*s kicked by my older brother my whole life, ” said Jones in a conversation with NFL.

“If the bosses don’t want the Alex Pereira fight to happen, then I’ll just move on with my life,” said Jones in a conversation with the media at the pre-fight press conference. He further added, “You can either lose me, or get one more super fight … and that’s with Alex Pereira.”
Jones floated the idea of facing Pereira when he was having a conversation with Sportsnet, “I walked away from the light heavyweight championship. I’d love to walk away from this one as well on top, on [my] own terms, good head on your shoulders, making lots of money. I love the position that I’m in right now. Fighting Pereira for the ‘BMF’ belt, that would be cool.”

Jones vs. Pereira is a money fight. There is no denying it. It’s a cross-division super fight like Max Holloway vs. Justin Gaethje or Nate Diaz vs. Conor McGregor. Regardless of the Aspinall challenge, fans will tune in for Poatan vs. Bones and they both know it. So, the Brazilian readily agreed to Jones’ proposal, since he’ll walk away with a huge paycheck as he has been doing over the blockbuster year he just had.
UFC 309 would set the stage for the heavyweight division as both Stipe Miocic and Jon Jones might retire after the bout. So is Jones vs. Pereira the one-shot attempt Jones needs to secure his financial future?
