Jon Jones has once again shaken up the world of mixed martial arts by just hinting at vacating the belt. But prior to that, he must win his next fight against the formidable Stipe Miocic. Although the fight fans have been waiting for the fight since UFC 295, where Jones would have defended his title against Miocic, the heavyweight champ had his pectoral muscle torn a couple of weeks before the match. This injury led to the cancellation of the bout.

However, the champ has provided the MMA fans with a sliver of hope. On X, the heavyweight fighter showed interest in taking up a fight against Alex Pereira and Tom Aspinall. Weeks after ‘Honey Badger’ seemingly gave up on the fight against Jones, the tweet has hinted at him finally accepting Aspinall’s challenge.

Following Pereira’s move to the light heavyweight realm, Jones let out what seemed like a two-word sigh on X, “my goodness.” However, the story has built up on that again. Jones recently took to X and released a picture related to him being cyberbullied. After a fan asked ‘Bones’ to vacate his belt, he wrote, “Maybe after I win this next one. Can’t have anyone trying to catch up to my record now.” Then, another fan declared that Pereira was the only competition. Knowing the Brazilian’s strengths, the 36-year-old fighter replied, “That’s a bad man.”

Soon after that, the former light heavyweight champion sent forth a tweet, asking his fans about the next opponent. “Who would you guys want to see me fight the most, Alex or Tom?” Without a doubt, the question caused an uproar in the fighting community. One fan chose the Aspinall as the most suitable opponent, even though the Brazilian would be a better fighter to market the bout. The fan wrote, “I think Alex would be a more marketable and better fight for your legacy but I feel Tom would fare better especially in terms of wrestling and grappling.”

Jones had his interest piqued by the idea of fighting the ‘Honey Badger’. He responded with, “Interesting.” But this isn’t the only time Jones has been pitted against Aspinall. After becoming the interim champion, the Brit wanted to fight Jones. Unfortunately, many seemed to believe that the champ was just running away.

Tom Aspinall showed confidence against Jones

Following an unsuccessful media tour, Aspinall had a confrontation with Jones. But things turned uglier as ‘Bones’ refused to have a symbolic face-off. After having tried almost everything to make this fight happen, Aspinall felt dejected and finally gave up on the idea of fighting Jones.

“I’m obviously confident that I could beat Jon Jones because I want to fight him. I don’t think Jon wants to fight. Obviously, I want it. I can’t do anymore. I’ve bitched about him, I’ve cried about him, I’ve said good stuff to him, said bad stuff to him, I’ve asked him about fighting to his face, it’s still not going on,” Aspinall said.

Nevertheless, Jones has reignited the fire with his recent tweets. If he follows through and finalizes a fight against the Brit, the fighting community would definitely get to witness one of the most dangerous fights to ever occur in the Octagon, don’t you agree?
