It seems like Jon Jones has his eyes fixed on one particular opponent following the Stipe Miocic fight. After asking the fans what they wanted, ‘Bones’ happened to have an epiphany of a probable match against Alex Pereira. Meanwhile, he also clapped back at some fans’ claims regarding Tom Aspinall.
Jon Jones has resumed training after recovering from his shoulder injury. He is already planning ahead of the heavyweight clash against Stipe Miocic and has even expressed his thoughts on social media regarding this. Jon Jones believes there is no bigger fight for him in the UFC than fighting the pride of Brazil, the 205-pound champion, Alex Pereira, not even Tom Aspinall. He pointed out ‘Poatan’s achievements and said that he has already reached a GOAT status for millions of fight fans. Jones also claimed that Pereira might get an opportunity to wash off the losses of all the Brazilian contenders he has fought in his illustrious career, including the likes of Lyoto Machida, Mauricio Rua, and the light heavyweight champ’s mentor, Glover Teixeira.
If Alex P became champion of the heavyweight division, would you guys consider him the GOAT? Being back in the gym has got me thinking differently. That fight after stipe maybe the next biggest move I could possibly make. This killer has already defeated so many champions, and…

Additionally, the heavyweight champ also believes that ‘Poatan’ is the perfect and the most logical opponent for him due to the similarities they have in terms of age and their different strengths in fighting styles. As such, Jon Jones seemed excited about how financially massive this fight could be and is confident that it would eclipse the money the UFC made when Conor McGregor fought Khabib Nurmagomedov.
It would be absolutely massive. A guy with a chance to be three division champion and a goat versus the actual goat. Same age, different strengths. No one can argue that that would be the biggest fight in MMA history. There’s absolutely no fight that generates a payday like that.… https://t.co/B4LGC209sV

However, Jon Jones received some negative comments regarding his choice of ideating a fight against the Brazilian ace. As expected, these were people who wanted to see the heavyweight champion fight Tom Aspinall. But those comments were shut down by Jones in a cheeky manner.

Several fans commented on his posts that all these tactics, wanting to fight someone from a lower weight class, are just another excuse for Jon Jones to avoid clashing against Tom Aspinall. The heavyweight champion silenced those criticisms by claiming that he doesn’t want to do what the UK fans want him to do because Aspinall is not as big of a deal as he thinks he is.
You actually think me fighting Tom would be more massive than Alex and I colliding? Tom only matters in the UK, newsflash. Pereira is one of the most polarizing figures this sport has seen. Toms a contender who won a belt against another contender. We had to save Madison Square… https://t.co/JatZed5UUO

Jon Jones believes that the UK superstar hasn’t done enough to claim to be a bigger star than Alex Pereira. Having heard what the fans had to say, he believes that the title unification match is something that only the fans from the interim champion’s native country want to see, while also claiming that he went through a similar experience with the French fans.
Things are getting interesting with Jon Jones and the idea of him fighting Alex Pereira could very well be a heavyweight clash for the ages. It remains to be seen what ‘Poatan’s response to this proposition will be. Is Dana White going to make this official? Let us know your thoughts on this front in the comments.
