As we approach UFC 309, the oddsmakers have Jon Jones beating Stipe Miocic to retain his undisputed heavyweight strap. Does the Ohio native stand a chance against the unbeatable ‘Bones’? Well, UFC light heavyweight star Anthony Smith seems to believe it may not necessarily be a cakewalk for Jones. Anthony Smith had the opportunity to fight for the strap only once in his UFC career, and that too, was against Jon Jones. He lost that fight while learning what the Albuquerque native is capable of inside the Octagon.
But according to ‘Lionheart’, this outing against Stipe is going to be one of the rarest experiences for Jon Jones. This is because he’s hardly used to fighting someone who’s also in the conversation when it comes to being the ‘G.O.A.T.’ “I think Jon Jones, for the first time in a long time, is in a situation that isn’t normal to him,” Anthony Smith told ‘The Schmo’. “Typically with guys like Jon Jones, Anderson Silva, GSP, Demetrious Johnson, you know, the greats, right? Those guys are fighting people that are climbing and clawing their way through the rankings to try to take what the king has.”
The 205lbs star would also point out how accomplished Stipe Miocic is when we check his resume, and because it’s the heavyweight division where he has made his mark, Jon Jones is up for a unique encounter. “This is probably the first time in a long time Jon is facing another king,” Anthony Smith added.

HW star makes bold claim about the Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic fight
One of the most vicious heavyweight finishers in history, Derrick Lewis, believes that Jon Jones has a better chance of defending his heavyweight title successfully against Stipe Miocic, in comparison to the UFC’s resident firefighter clinching the title a record third time. Moreover, ‘The Black Beast’ boldly claimed that the Madison Square Garden headliner would have a finish, and it would be Jones who would secure a very early win. He even expressed how surprised he was that people were even thinking that this would be a close contest.

“I think Jones will beat him in the first round. It’s crazy to see a lot of people just disrespect Jones like that, like he ain’t the G.O.A.T., for real,” Derrick Lewis stated during the UFC Edmonton media day just days before he pulled out of his scheduled fight. “A lot of people keep throwing around these GOAT terms and this and that; Jones has been doing this for so many years at the top of the level against all these opponents, like top-ranked guys.”
