If we think about crowd chants, it’s an essential part of sports, be it a team sport or an individual sport. But in combat sports, catchphrases take precedence over everything, especially when a fighter becomes popular. That’s exactly the case with 19-year-old Raul Rosas Jr., who recently had even Joe Rogan say his now-famous catchphrase, ‘chiwiwi’.
The ‘chiwiwi’ catchphrase took shape when Raul Rosas Jr. used to say that in his social media posts, later becoming his signature and a part of his persona. For context, the word doesn’t really have any meaning to it because it was just something the bantamweight star made, along with one of his friends named Carlos. The catchphrase has caught fire and UFC 306 was a witness to it.
As Raul Rosas Jr. was fighting Aoriqileng during the recent pay-per-view, fans would start chanting his catchphrase, and as soon as that started, Joe Rogan got distracted while commentating on the fight. With a tone of surprise, the 57-year-old would tell his commentary partner, Daniel Cormier, “You hear that, ‘Chiwiwi.'” This would put ‘DC’ in the mood as he would recite his own version of the catchphrase and say, “He got that, chiwiwi.”

It was a wholesome moment that delivered on all ground in terms of production but faltered when it came to the two big headlining fights, the co-main, and the main event. Similarly, even fans couldn’t contain the way Joe Rogan said, ‘chiwiwi’, believing that it was perhaps the highlight of the night.

Joe Rogan amuses fans with his ‘Chiwiwi’ chants
Nobody really expected Joe Rogan and even Daniel Cormier to chant Raul Rosas Jr’s catchphrase. Some fans believe that the longtime color commentator and his broadcast partner, Daniel Cormier, made their night after they said the ‘chiwiwi’ catchphrase. They said, “Best commentary of the night lmao,” and “chiwiwis will forever be my favorite thing to say.” Meanwhile, some haters of that catchphrase also reacted, saying that “it’s annoying lol.” A fan had a different take as they commented, “Joe was so high.”
It was a hilarious moment and there’s no doubt about it, but where Joe Rogan apparently failed to impress fans was the fact that he couldn’t quite hit the high note like Raul Rosas Jr. “Joe tried to hit a high note,” one fan commented in that regard. Meanwhile, some fans claimed that saying ‘chiwiwi’ changed Rogan’s accent altogether. One Instagram user wondered, “Why did Joe sound French?”

The fans even took a light-hearted jab at Daniel Cormier with one fan claiming that he sounded like someone’s “grandma.” On the night side, one fan believes that Raul Rosas Jr. has all the momentum in the world to become the next big star given the reception he got when he fought Aoriqileng at UFC 306. “you know you’ve made it when [catchphrase gets popular],” that fan added.
Raul Rosas Jr. is now in the double digits in the winning column and has a 3-fight winning streak. It may not be too long before we get to see ‘El Nino Problem’ fight for the divisional gold if he can rack up a couple more wins. Maybe Joe Rogan would agree with this assessment, don’t you think?
