Justin Gaethje is prepping to defend his ‘BMF’ belt against Max Holloway. The fight is scheduled to happen at the UFC 300 cards. What a fight it must be for the fans to witness. The best strikers in the game squaring off in order to claim the ‘BMF’ belt. Sounds like a fairy tale, doesn’t it? However, Joe Rogan is not a big fan of the match.

Even though the matchup has all the glam, Joe Rogan believes that this is a bad matchup. Rogan believes that Holloway should stay in his weight class. However, why does the podcaster think that this will be the demise of Holloway? Let us find out.

Holloway competed once in the lightweight division against Dustin Poirier, and that did not go well for the fighter. After that fight, Rogan had this impression that Holloway was too small to compete at 155. The podcaster in a recent statement asserted that he is not a very big fan of the fight. “You know what I hate? Max is a great ’45-pounder, but Dustin Poirier beat him up at ’55 pounds. I think those guys are a little too big.”

Rogan rather wants to see Holloway fight for the featherweight title than the ‘BMF’ one. UFC’s former fighter Chael Sonnen explained why Rogan is so concerned about the match-up. While having a conversation on his YouTube handle, Sonnen said, “Joe Rogan came out and said, ‘I hate the fight,’ talking about Max and Gaethje. He mentioned that Max has tried to come to 155 before, Max bumped up, tried to take on Khabib, and it gets scratched”

He further added ” [Holloway] ultimately does compete at the weight class one time with Dustin Poirier and did not win a round. Nobody ever said, ‘I wanna see Max and Justin fight.’ Ever. Justin Gaethje and a 45-pounder, never a piece of dialogue. When Rogan comes out and he says he hates it… he hates it because in Joe’s mind, it’s a foregone conclusion: Justin Gaethje is gonna beat Max. Max is then gonna be returned to 145, although a little shine and little luster is going to be gone, and he’s not quite gonna be the number one contender.”

Justin Gaethje is a dangerous man. The ‘BMF champ has been known to be one of the most heavy punchers in the game and a matchup with the fighter is either a win-or-death situation for most of the fighters. Holloway’s first rodeo in the lightweight division was worse and, as per the likes of Rogan and Sonnen, the second rodeo might prove to be worse.

Doubling down on his words, Sonnen further explains that Holloway might be making a mistake by fighting Gaethje. “Rogan was talking about this and he bought the size back into it. He said, look Max has not gotten any bigger. These guys were too big for him the first time. And moreover, if Max bumps up and gets beat up, dropping him down or make believing that we’re going to be able to just send him back home to 145. And still have that nice beautiful shine on him is not going to happen. Joe makes a very fair point, doesn’t he?”
