Is Joe Rogan's fear of a shredded Mike Tyson a sign of respect or unnecessary worry?

UFC commentator and podcaster Joe Rogan is known for his close relationship with many prominent figures in combat sports, with Mike Tyson being a prime example. Tyson, who has appeared on The Joe Rogan Experience in the past, is a close friend of Rogan. However, did you know that Rogan is actually afraid of Tyson? He recently admitted this to his guest, Hollywood actor Russell Crowe, on his latest podcast episode, #2191.

Russell Crowe began by discussing his banter with Mike Tyson during Tyson’s second phase, a period marked by a temporary retirement. This phase started in 200 when Tyson made a comeback, which is when Crowe first got to know him and began to appreciate Tyson’s large. As Crowe recounted these memories, Rogan suddenly interrupted him to reveal why the tables on his podcast are so wide. Rogan explained, “Because I was going to make the table more narrow and be closer to the guest. I had him on once when he was retired, and he was much heavier. He was smoking a lot of weed, and he was contemplative, interesting, philosophical, and just a fun guy to hang out with.”

Rogan then went on to explain the reason behind Tyson’s rapid body transformation, particularly during Tyson’s fight against former undisputed champion Roy Jones Jr. in 2020. He recalled, “Then I had him on again when he was about to fight Roy Jones Jr. He lost about 60 lbs; he looked shredded, with muscles bulging in his arms. He was very intense, like a completely different human being. It was terrifying just being in the room. He  f**king scares me.”

Mike Tyson is currently preparing for a boxing comeback after a hiatus. The fight was originally scheduled for July but was postponed to November due to Tyson’s health issues. Since the announcement, it has become a thorn in the side of critics who have labeled it a ‘robbery fight’ because Tyson is approaching 60. However, Joe Rogan remains supportive of Tyson, dismissing age as a factor that could be problematic in his upcoming fight.

Joe Rogan backs Tyson’s boxing comeback

Earlier this year, Netflix surprised everyone by dropping the teaser for a boxing match between 58-year-old Mike Tyson and 27-year-old Jake Paul. This exhibition match would mark Tyson’s return to the ring after four years, after his last fight with Roy Jones Jr. The announcement caused concern among fans about the potential health consequences for the legendary boxer.

However, Tyson’s friend Joe Rogan has a different opinion. On one of his podcasts, Joe Rogan dismissed the notion that age would be a significant factor in their fight. Rogan said, “There are certain people that are just crazy,” Rogan said of Tyson’s detractors. “They’re definitely uninformed, because here’s the thing. Yes, he’s 57 years old, he’ll be 58 when they fight.” Rogan backed up his claim by mentioning Tyson’s past opponents, saying, “He’s had a long fighting career, he’s been knocked out by massive men like Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield.”
