Contrary to expectations, Dustin Poirier proved once again that he is among the very best lightweight fighters in the world by defeating Benoit Saint-Denis at UFC 299 on Saturday. ‘BSD’, on paper had all of the advantages over the Louisiana native and Poirier was not expected to win the fight.

The first round went per most people’s expectations, with the former French Special Forces operative, who had finished his previous five opponents within two rounds, dominating ‘Diamond’. However, the 35-year-old showed his pedigree and character in the second round making a dramatic comeback to knock out Saint-Denis with a right hook. However, Poirier revealed that one thing ticked him off when he watched the fight back and it was something Joe Rogan, calling the fight in the commentary booth said about him.

After the fight, congratulations poured in from all sides for Poirier who has now put himself in an excellent position and reclaimed his spot as a top contender for the title in the ultra-competitive lightweight division of the UFC. However, Poirier took offense to something that UFC commentator and podcaster Joe Rogan, said while calling the fight cageside.

The ‘Diamond’ told Ariel Helwani on the latter’s ‘MMA Hour’ show that he took issue with Rogan questioning his stamina as he felt he had some of the best cardio and stamina in the sport.

“I rewatched the fight last night with my wife when we got back to Louisiana. Joe Rogan said I was exhausted, said I was tired like five times. Bro, I do not get tired. I have some of the best cardio in this fight sh*t that we do. Like, I can go 25 minutes, hard, cracking the whole time. I can’t believe he said that … I felt good,” Poirier said. With this victory, Poirier has opened the door for another shot at the coveted 155-pound title and is looking to fight champion Islam Makhachev in June.
