Is the backlash against Joe Rogan's Belal Muhammad episode justified, or just another case of cancel culture?

Joe Rogan and his podcast boasts an array of guests from different backgrounds, but it is not very often that the multi-million dollar podcaster hosts MMA notables, both current and ex-UFC stars. Although a UFC fighter’s appearance in JRE usually succeeds in generating considerable excitement among the fans, it was not the same impression that Belal Muhammad made.

With the JRE back on YouTube, Rogan’s been sharing many old episodes on his YouTube channel while posting new ones as well. And for the recent ‘JRE MMA Show’, he decided to invite Belal Muhammad, who’s been the flavor of the month after his title win. The conversation between Joe Rogan and Muhammad had them talking about the odd UFC 304 timing, which was something that put many fans off.

Belal Muhammad had an impressive showing against Leon Edwards, who didn’t rate the first Palestinian UFC champion’s chances against him at UFC 304. He landed significantly more strikes than the former champion, and guess what? There were nine takedowns to go along with those strikes that earned the most important win in his career. It was certainly a dominating performance that left ‘Rocky’ clueless.

Also, ‘Remember the Name’ got backing from the JRE host after his recent win. Rogan sounded off on the people who still criticize the welterweight champion, without evaluating the performance he put in against the formidable ex-champion. Regardless, it failed to impress fans, and they sounded off in the comments section of the podcast episode.

Joe Rogan often has multiple hour-long conversations with his guests more often than not. His episode #1530 conversation with fellow comedian Duncan Trussell was the longest one ever, lasting over five hours. Keeping that in mind, one fan stated, “Ain’t no way I’m listening to that voice for 3 hours,” expressing his unwillingness to listen to the 57-year-old talk to Belal Muhammad. Another fan, who did try to watch the episode, claimed to have gotten disinterested less than a minute into the podcast. He said, “I fell asleep at [16 seconds].”

A couple of fans commented, “The most unexcited I have been to listen to JRE in a long time,” and, “Wow, Belal on mute is actually top tier,” citing Belal Muhammad being the key reason why this episode was a let-down for them. The onslaught continued from fans as one of them claimed that not only listening to the welterweight champion got them bored, but also the way he fights, which is not a new sentiment, to say the least. “I sleep when this guy fights. Now a podcast?”

It wasn’t long before the fans took a shot at the way he defeated Leon Edwards. They wanted a finish, which he couldn’t achieve despite slamming the champion awkwardly upside down, which was a really scary moment at UFC 304. Another couple of YouTube users claimed, “You dropped Leon on his head and still couldn’t finish him “remember the decision,” and, “Took the podcast to a boring decision,” indicating that he’s still not able to communicate with the UFC fans even after becoming champion.
