Former two-time flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo kicked off the historic UFC 300 card against former bantamweight Cody Garbrandt. After an impressive win against Rob Font, the former 125-pounder continued his winning ways against ‘No Love,’ with a submission win in the second round.

Deiveson Figueiredo seems to have had an amazing start to his career in the bantamweight division. It’s never easy for fighters to make the same kind of impact they had in a new division, but that did not seem to be the case for ‘Deus Da Guerra’. The former flyweight champion successfully earned arguably his biggest win at UFC 300 and registered consecutive victories, following which, he had a couple of requests from Dana White.

Deiveson Figueiredo registered the first finish of the night when he submitted Cody Garbrandt in the card opener at Las Vegas. A packed T-Mobile Arena witnessed quite an eventful fight. The finish of the fight not only impressed the fans but Joe Rogan also seemed to have been impressed with the former 2-time UFC champion’s performance against a former champion of a new weight class. The 56-year-old mentioned that he should have been in the bantamweight division a long time ago.

On the other hand, Deiveson Figueiredo, first of all, appeared appreciative of the crowd in attendance. He then turned his focus on Dana White, asking the UFC CEO for the $300,000 bonus, which he believes he earned with the submission win. Secondly, Figueiredo hinted at wanting to fight for the title and possibly take on Sean O’Malley following his win over Cody Garbrandt, something that Joe Rogan brought up during the Octagon Interview.

Will that happen? It remains to be seen what the UFC CEO thinks of it. Nevertheless, here’s how the bout went, in case you need a refresher or missed it!

What went down at the UFC 300 opener

The fight started off with each fighter sizing up each other with caution. Cody Garbrandt and Deiveson Figueiredo both traded strikes and at one instance, the Brazilian almost dropped the former bantamweight champion. However, Garbrandt and Figueiredo decided to not lean in too much towards their opponent. The 1st round was not as eventful as the round ended shortly after a takedown attempt from ‘Deus Da Guerra’.

The second round saw Cody Garbrandt go for a few hard punches before getting taken down by Deiveson Figueiredo. The Brazilian got onto ‘No Love’s back, eventually landed on the receiving end of an arm triangle position, and looked helpless for a few minutes. Garbrandt kept trying to get out of his predicament, but again, ended up in another submission position and finally tapped out to the former flyweight champion’s rear-naked choke attempt.
