A few months ago, UFC CEO Dana White made some changes to the UFC setup to improve the sport. One of the most significant changes included modifying the gloves being used in the promotion. The idea behind this was to help the fighters during their fights, resulting in fewer eye pokes. However, it seems the change has not gone well with UFC color commentator Joe Rogan. The 56-year-old has been associated with the UFC for a long time and has seen the promotion grow. But this change has not quite impressed him as he gave negative feedback about the new gear.

The sport of MMA has grown a lot over the years in terms of its gear and even fighting styles. However, not every change has been accepted by the fans. The latest change made in the sport is in the boxing gloves. According to the UFC, there are two different varieties of gloves: 3EIGHT and 5EIGHT. Since the gloves have been introduced, only four fights have ended in a knockout out of 37 fights.

The gloves are used for two different fights the former is used in three-round fights and the latter in five rounds. In the recent episode of the JRE Fight Companion, Rogan opened up on the new gloves, saying, “Hey Bro, these new gloves they ain’t no better than the old gloves.” The 56-year-old is mainly concerned about the fingers of the fighters. There are some fighters who use their fingers to gain an advantage in their clash. But it seems he has a plan for them as well.

He added, “They made a better glove. It is better I should say. It’s better padding. The best gloves, the best gloves, are clearly not made yet. They need to cover the fingers. You know they need to cover the fingers. There’s no reason. The fingers never come into play. “

Not only Joe Rogan but many fighters have also disapproved of the gloves. Talking about fighters, two of the biggest names in the sport Islam Makhachev and Sean Strickland also faced some problems with the gloves.

Islam Makhachev and Sean Strickland not happy with the gloves

UFC 302 witnessed Islam Makhachev defend his title for the third time in his career. While he did put up a show for the fans, he had his share of problems training with the new gloves. The Dagestani Fighter is known for his intense training and hard sparring sessions. But it seems that the 32-year-old is not impressed by the new gear. According to the champion, the new gloves keep the fingers of the fighters closed, which affects their mobility. He also pointed out how the stiffness made it tough for him to grapple with his opponents.

He said, “The new gloves are very stiff. They will cause more cuts, as the previous UFC gloves were softer. These are stiffer. They don’t let you fully open your hand just to make sure the fingers don’t extend straight forward.” While Makhachev took a very humble approach in describing the problems, former middleweight champion Sean Strickland was a bit harsh.
