Joe Rogan is a fitness freak. This is why the JRE podcast host is probably one of the fittest, buffest 57-year-olds you will come across. To maintain his stellar health and physique, the UFC commentator goes to great lengths- from his famous cold plunges, and TRT therapy, to his insistence on eating elk meat, Rogan is all-in.

And this concern for his health extends, of course, to his mental health. That is why the Texas resident has done so many podcasts talking to health and medical experts, even controversial ones. In a recent conversation with medical entrepreneurs Dr Casey and Calley Means on episode #2210, Rogan would ring alarm bells on some very prominent Alzheimer’s research.

“The reason why I brought up Alzheimer’s, there’s a couple of reasons. One the Amyloid plaque research, wasn’t that proven to be flawed like, deeply, and maybe even corrupt?… Max Lugavere posted it on Instagram ‘Over 100 NIH funded Alzheimer’s and Parkinsons research papers contain completely made up data according to new allegations. Billions in funding and years of research now in serious doubt,'” Rogan quoted his friend and medical practitioner Max Lugavere.

What Lugavere was talking about is a recent allegation by the outlet ‘Science.org’ that has accused Eliezer Masliah, the chief adviser to the NIA Director, of manipulating and outright faking elements of research in papers authored by him. You can find the full, in-depth report here. Of course, this revelation has come as a huge shock to the scientific community and puts decades of research under scrutiny since Masliah was considered the leading expert on the topic. And Dr Means shared with Rogan her opinion on why research manipulation is a problem today.

Guest tells Joe Rogan ‘economic incentive’ behind data manipulation in medical research

Dr Caley Means explained that if the allegations against Masliah were indeed true, how that could have significant consequences for ongoing and future Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s research. Both disorders, of course, are neurodegenerative diseases that cause cognitive decline and affect the brain in different ways.

“We’re hearing about a new premiere researcher who’s published, you know, hundreds of papers in their field who like literally… copied and pasted Western blots in like papers across their career. Like just made up data that then has served as foundational dogma for future research. So you think about the ripple effect [of that on other research],” she said.

In addition, Dr Means felt that the problem that is leading to this type of alleged fraud in medical research was an “economic incentive problem.” She felt that the profit motive driving medical research was an important factor behind this type of ‘manipulation’ of data that occasionally rears its ugly head in the field. What are your thoughts on the topic?
