Rogan convened the group on the latest episode of JRE titled Sober October 4 Recap. About 10 minutes into their conversation, Bert Kreischer suggested Shaffir should do a podcast with Kanye West.
Joe Rogan and co. discuss the Kanye West controversy
After Kreischer said that he would love to see Shaffir host Kanye West, Shaffir chimed in with his opinion. He said that he would call West crazy, or attack him. Instead, he wanted to know the point the artist was trying to make. Kreischer responded he was not following the issue closely because it was not fascinating to him.
Joe Rogan gave his opinion, saying, “Well, Kanye, this is the way I’ve described it. I’m gonna describe it in the most charitable way possible. The same thing that makes him a great artist… It’s like one thing to another, and every rap flows with the f*cking beatniks. It’s so catchy…” The 55-year-old followed up by saying that what made Ye great also fueled his recent controversies:
“He’s a genius. When you apply that same thing to conversation, you want to dominate the conversation. You want to say what you think and then enforce what you’re saying and try to figure out a way to make what you’re saying valid even if it’s not. You’re like wrestling with the initial idea you put out there.”
West is still facing a lot of heat for the antisemitic remarks he made. The rapper faced significant financial losses after sponsors cut ties with him. His personal brand also took an enormous hit, following the severe backlash to his comments. West himself claimed he lost almost $2 billion in a single day after the backlash from the controversial remarks.

During a conversation with Andrew Schultz on JRE, Rogan gave his thoughts on Kanye West’s genius and how it separated him from other people. Schultz bashed West for being selfish. He said that the rapper constantly tried to take something that was uncool and tried to make it cool. He explained it was the reason that West supported Trump. “It’s selfish. It’s all about him,” Schultz said.
Rogan, however, had a different opinion on the matter. Rogan said that West had “a different plug” to the universe. He recalled a conversation he had with West over the phone. Rogan’s opinion was that West was so much different from everyone else, similar to Elon Musk. His actions were an attempt to affirm that he’s okay, said Rogan.
