The truth is certainly stranger than fiction. But that person clearly never watched the later movies in the Fast and Furious franchise. With their intense, action-filled action scenes and convoluted plotlines, the franchise has become something of a meme.

An incredibly popular and profitable meme, that is. With ten films in the franchise already, it is a roaring success. And Joe Rogan seems to be a big fan of the films as was evident when he had comedian Ehsan Ahmed on episode 2050 of the JRE podcast.

During the course of their conversation, the pair got talking about the global phenomenon of the Fast and Furious movies. Although the franchise started off as grounded films based on underground car scenes in America and Japan, it moved on to more elaborate and some would say ridiculous set pieces as the franchise progressed.

And Rogan delighted in one scene in particular from Fast 9. He found the scene where the character played by rapper Ludacris took a rocket car to space and drove it as one would a conventional car. This is unfortunately for motorsport enthusiasts, against the laws of physics.

“Remember when they took a car into space? Ludacris was driving a car in space with a steering wheel, an accelerator, everything.”

Rogan felt this was America’s gift to the world and represented the country at its lowest. He felt (correctly) that the film would have been a smash hit. Fast and Furious 9 was the fifth highest-grossing film of 2021 and raked in an impressive $726 million globally.

“This is our gift to the world. This is America at its base level. This is how ridiculous we could be. And by the way, that movie probably sold to 100 billion people,” the podcast host added. The duo also talked about one of Rogan’s pet peeves.

Rogan then moved on to one of his favorite subjects – debunking flat earthers. Rogan pointed out that since all planets are round, which is an easily verifiable fact, it even doesn’t make sense that only Earth would be flat.

“They’re [planets] all round. How many planets have they found now? They started finding them as the equipment got better. But I think it was a long time before they found the first expolanet. Now, I think they’ve detected hundreds of them. All of them are round. The idea that we are the only ones that isn’t round. Okay, go around it with a ruler,” Rogan told his guest.

He suggested anyone who claims the earth is flat should go and measure it with a ruler to alleviate their skepticism. The UFC commentator is a strong critic of flat-earth conspiracy. One of Rogan’s best friends and BJJ trainer, Eddie Bravo is a flat earther, with whom the podcast host has had vigorous debates on the podcast.
